Merrimack river isn't what it used to be. Over time it has become very dirty but I can say they have been doing a great job cleaning it up. Although, there is still certain areas i wouldn't swim in. It's a great slow moving river for canoeing, kayaking, tubing and fishing. There are several parks available for a nice peaceful place to relax in if you don't mind the smell of urine and human feces from the homeless. The parks and river is being destroyed by all the homeless people. The government can put millions of dollars in aid to feed and put the illegal immigrants into facilities and hotels so they can secure their votes but leave our vets, mentally ill and homeless to wonder the streets and live in tents.. They are all trashing the parks along the merrimack river but you can still find one or two that haven't been destroyed yet....
