Catch of the day LLC Alaska, Hoonah whale watching. — Local services in Hoonah

Captain and Limo Driver Dennis gave the wife and I a true personal whale watching experience. I was searching and searching back n forth from Juneau and Icy Straight Point/Hoonah for days and I'm glad I chose Catch of the Day. For about the same price as the big tour excursions, he keeps his tours at a maximum of 6 people. Comfortable seating with heat inside to stay out the cold/rain. Plenty of walk around room outside to catch the whales as they pop up from anywhere around you. The minute we left the no wake zone he was heading to where he last seen humpbacks but at the corner of his eye he saw a group of Orca's from a far. He said his wife told him he can spot whales hundreds of yards out but can't spot the gallon of milk on the second shelf. Lol. That's a Captain you need. One thing I can say is take his personal tour because as we went closer to the Orca's, he notified his other buddy on the radio and more and more tours started heading our way. One thing I noticed is how everyone was crunched up together trying to catch that photo while we had plenty of room on the boat to not feel crowded. As a person who's a little skeptical of online reviews I can assure you there's a reason why everyone gives Catch of the Day five stars. Captain Dennis has the kind of personality that makes you feel immediately welcome and relaxed, and his years of experience put him above the bigger boats that were darting here and there at top speeds trying to catch up with the whales that we spotted first.

We really enjoyed being on a smaller boat. We didn't have to squeeze through crowds of people to get a good view and we had a personable experience with the captain of the ship who answered all our questions and had plenty of interesting stories to tell. This was our first time seeing humpbacks in the wild and we had the time of our lives.

And as if that wasn't enough... We started and ended our excursion with a ride to and from our cruise ship in a limousine. Truth be told, I'm not really one to be impressed by that kind of stuff from the outside. But the ride was so comfortable that it truly completed an awesome overall experience.

Wow! What an amazing trip we had! Captain Dennis and Captain Brent have the experience and knowledge you want for a whale watching tour. They only do 6 passengers max so you get the personalized attention that you don’t get on the other crowded boats. Not only did we get some amazing humpback encounters, we also saw sea otters, porpoises, harbor seals, stellar sea lions, bald eagles, grizzly bears on shore, and ORCA WHALES. I’ve always wanted to see them in the wild. You won’t always see everything, but that’s wild nature and what makes it a true adventure. We also did a second trip with them to enjoy more beauty of SE Alaska. We had so much fun on the first day, we had to do another trip. We already booked a private charter with them for next year because we’re bringing some family with us.
