Once we got off the cruise ship, the transfer process was seamless. We took a short 5-minute ride on the green gondola, followed by a quick 5-minute walk to Excursion Hub, where Captain Lucas met us personally. From there, it was just a 5-minute drive to the nearby town of Hoonah, where the boat is docked. The entire transition from cruise ship to charter boat took less than 15 minutes, even from the farthest of the two cruise docks.

During the short van ride to Hoonah, Lucas shared some great local history and pointed out a few notable spots along the way, making the short trip informative and enjoyable.

Once we got out on the water, the action started immediately. We were on fish right away and it was non-stop. We caught so many halibut (and 1 cod) that our hands and arms were shaking, but that didn’t stop us from reeling in more!

Captain Lucas was amazing. He was kind, patient, knowledgeable, and created such a welcoming, relaxed environment. It’s clear he knows the area and the fish extremely well. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned angler, you’ll feel completely at ease and in great hands.

We recently did the Halibut fishing charter with Captain Lucas and it was the best experience we had during our cruise! The booking process is very simple and they are very quick to respond if you need to reach out! We did the morning charter so we were picked up at Icy Straight Point and taken to his boat in Hoonah. He had a few snacks, coffee/tea, and even some delicious cinnamon rolls his daughter had made that morning! Nobody on our charter was in a big hurry, so before we set out to fish, we actually got to his crab cages and watch him check on them, which was cool! We set out to fish and after the first spot (where other boats were) was a bit of a dud, after they left, we went over to his spot and it was NONSTOP halibut after we anchored. We literally couldn’t stop catching fish for probably 2 hours. He was very knowledgeable about the size of fish in the area and, as we were planning on keeping one each, advised when we should keep or throw one back to save for a bigger one later. As we were headed back, Captain Lucas noticed a few whaling boats and thought they may have spotted something. He changed the channel on his radio and we found out there were Orcas! So we then went and watched them for a while which was amazing. He assisted us with the necessary forms for the company that would process our fish and when we docked, drove them over for processing as well.
