Herm reached out to me after seeing the following review and was most gracious. He honestly wanted to find out exactly what went wrong with our trip and to make amends. He offered a partial refund and an apology for our trip not lasting the full 3 1/2 hours, He also offered to give me and my spouse a free trip, unfortunately we may never make it to Icy Strait again. I found out that their policy is to extend the end time in the event that it starts late to insure that each trip lasts the contracted length of time. An error was evidently made on our trip. I appreciate Herm contacting me, it means a lot.

First off, let me say the boat and equipment were top notch and captain and crew were very accommodating. The boat was perfect for the four of us and everything was prepared for us to get fishing as soon as we reached the fishing spot. I also understand that it is called fishing and not catching, nothing is guaranteed. That being said, it was not a very enjoyable experience since no one on the boat caught a halibut or fish of any kind. One of our crew thought he had a bite, but nothing ever got on the hook. On a fishing charter I expect the captain to have scouted out in advance and located the fish, and to put the clients on the fish quick, but we went to a spot that had not been fished this year, but was expected to be a good spot. We spent all our fishing time sitting on the same spot waiting for the fish to move in. They never did To complicate matters we booked a 7am start time - on a 3 1/2 hour trip since our cruise ship schedule was to allow us off the ship at 6am. The night before we docked at Icy Strait we were informed the ship would dock at 7am. We were delayed starting the fishing trip by almost 1 hour. While I realize that this was not Hooked Adventures fault, they did not adjust our trip end time and we were on the water only 2 1/2 hours (25 min out to fishing spot and 25 min return, leaving only about 1 1/2 hours fishing time) . This fishing trip was insane, you could NOT have scripted a better afternoon. It took maybe 10 minutes to get to the fishing grounds where we could still see our cruise ship at the dock. Captain Herm helped my youngest son (8) drop the first line and as soon as Herm handed the rod to him a fish was on. After my son reeled in the first Halibut, he dropped the line back in and started baiting and dropping the next line but before that one hit the sea floor the first rod had another fish on. As my son started reeling in his 2nd fish the next rod hit. This continued on for 2-3 hours. Nearly the entire time we had at least 2 fish on and sometimes all 4 rods at once had fish on them. We eventually asked the Captain to put one of the rods away and rotated through just three. My daughter (11) thinks she reeled in the most fish and the two biggest (around 25 lbs). I say "thinks" because my wife and I stopped counting. The total for the day was around 30 but it could have been much more as we got tired and only had a line or two in at the end.

In addition to the fishing we saw, and heard, nearby whales several times. We even had a group of sea lions porpoising towards us and nearly jumping in the boat!

The Captain offered to fillet and ship the fish home but we threw most of them back other than two which he gave to a local resident in need.

Aside from the results and the scenery the process was simple, the boat was clean, and we felt safe the entire time.

We took a cruise that had a stop in Icy Straight Point. Before we cruised, I saw that Royal Caribbean had halibut fishing listed as one of their excursions but it was pretty expensive. I decided to look for alternatives, and I found hooked adventures. The price was much better than what was offered via the cruise. I took a look at their Instagram, and it looked like it would be a great time. I decided to book with them, and we ended up taking the whole boat for the two of us. We had Herminio as our guide, and he was so much fun! He was very knowledgeable, and we learned a lot from him about the area and how to catch fish like pros! He let us customize our trip so that we could also sight see. We saw so many whales! They were breaching and bubble feeding. It was amazing! Best of all, we caught so many fish! I would say at least 20! The majority were halibut but we also caught rockfish, cod, flounder and a ray! This was absolutely one of our favorite days on our Alaskan adventure! Herminio made sure that we got back to the cruise on time so we didn’too have to stress about anything. We fell in love with Icy Straight Point and fishing on this trip. We are hoping to come back to visit again soon and when we do we will definitely be going out with Hooked and Herminio again! 10/10 definitely...
