Horizon Golf Course offers Harvest Hosts overnight stays, and I found it to be a very convenient stop. The parking lot was large with ample space for my truck and 30-foot trailer. It felt like a safe area of town, was well-lit at night, and was positioned right next to a grassy section of the driving range. There’s plenty of room for any size rig, making it a solid option for travelers.
Inside the clubhouse, there’s a men’s locker room with plenty of bathroom stalls and four showers—although only two appeared to be working. The facility also used to have a pool, which looks like it’s waiting for renovations. The golf course itself features a large restaurant called the Horizon Bar and Grill, which replaced the former Moonlight establishment.
I attempted to play a round of golf, but everything was fully booked. The driving range was available, but by the time I considered using it, it was getting too dark. All of the staff I encountered were friendly, but I noticed that everyone working appeared to be under 25 years old. This might explain some of the maintenance and upkeep issues I observed.
There was noticeable trash on the driving range, all over the parking lot, and inside all the common areas of the clubhouse. A conference room off the men's locker room had old beer mugs with moldy beer still sitting in them, along with other trash left unattended. It was clear that no one was tasked with tidying up, and the overall condition of the facility reflected a lack of oversight. The general areas were cluttered, the furniture was outdated, and the landscaping was neglected. Open any of the unlocked men's lockers and you'll find old shoes, empty golf ball boxes, and dirty clothes obviously sitting for a very long time. Easy stuff to remedy.
It seemed like employees were doing their best with what they had but weren’t given the authority to truly clean up and organize the space.
Overall, I’m giving Horizon Golf Course a three-star rating. Given the green fees and memberships that people pay, the facilities and clubhouse accommodations don’t reflect what one would expect. There really should be an on-site manager to help eliminate these obvious issues. Adding to the dilapidated condition is the restaurant. Broken tables and chairs, decor falling off the windows, torn booths, etc. really doesn't show well overall but I'll review the...
Read moreThe first time that I went this place is awesome. But the second time that I went with more people the Marshall was extremely rude and cursed at us if people follow their proper tee time there would be no problems at this course if the marshals were to manage that they would have a lot less reason to take it out on the people playing slower I thought this course was amazing but it turns out they need better time management skills if you book a Time at 1:30 you should start at 1:30 not earlier not later like any other golf course this is proper etiquette but this is not enforced at this golf course instead the Marshall will come and rush you just because the other group behind you decided to start at the wrong time this course deserves 5 stars because if it's well-kept course but 1 star because of its terrible maintenance crew they need to work on how to talk to their...
Read moreThis USED to be my favorite course in elpaso... went today, and had one of their employees ( who I dubbed the cart police) come up to our group of 4 and proceeded to tell us that how we are driving the carts is absolutely unacceptable! We wernt doing anything wrong! This 20 something year old kid was very disrespectful to 4 older, military vets! This pretty much angered me to the point of never going back there again. Then we had 2 yound kids hit into us on 17, and almost hit one of us in the head! Then on 18, the "cart police" came back and said we need to hurry up and finish because there is a turni starting! I'll tell you this, us 4 will never go back to horizon golf course again. Don't waste you time or money on this course, stay in town and hit lone star. Absolutely...
