I was once a member of Mt Ararat Baptist Church, which is across the street from Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church (FWMBC). My late husband (Lawrence Walker) and his mother (Alice Walker) were members at FWMBC. When my husband introduced me to his mother, she invited me to visit FWMBC. That Sunday changed my life. After visiting on multiple occasions, I realized I was attending FWMBC more than I was attending my own church. When I walked up to enter through FWMBC house of worship, I was greeted by the most gracious ladies whose smiles would light up the room. At that moment, I felt so welcomed, and I eventually joined FWMBC in 1994 after I married my late husband. At that time, I attended FWMBC under the leadership of Reverend Leonard Barksdale, who was a remarkable pastor. Unfortunately, in 2016, Reverend Barksdale passed away, and Revered Timothy Criswell-Servant became my pastor. Rev. Timothy Criswell-Servant picked up where Reverend Barksdale left off. Rev. Timothy Criswell-Servant is a true man of God! He pours the gospel into us every Sunday, and I leave there with a sense of enlightenment and the need to be a better person. His church sermons are so relatable and very impactful to my life. He is the type of pastor that will fight for you, stand up for you, and pray for you and with you. Omg! This church is utterly amazing! From the very first moment I walked into this church I knew it was the church for me! The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and inviting! The Holy Spirit is definitely in the building! The people are loving and caring, and the pastor and his wife is one of a kind! The energy in this church is unmatched! My very first time that I visited this church by the end of the service I became a member! It didn’t take me multiple times to visit this church to know this is where I belong. God is truly in the mist of this church… The pastor is the truth! I love the way he delivers his message. I have no complaints about this Church and I’m not just saying that because I’m a member of this church. I was invited to FWMBC by a friend. My first time attending was a New Year’s Eve service. The last service of the year in 23’. I was completely blown away. I had never heard the word preach that way before. I joined some time later the next year, but Pastor Criswell preaches directly from the Bible. He makes everyone feel welcome and does not hold his tongue for foolishness. He is one of the greatest men I know. I inspire to be a man of God like him. Life is still working on me and I don’t go as regularly as I should, but as Pastor Criswell says,” keep coming back.” I definitely will, it’s my home. If you want a Bible based church home with a congregation that welcomes everyone, you won’t regret a visit. No politics involved, just good music and a Pastor that has the gift from God. You gonna hear about Jesus in a way that’s understandable with great interpretation. Pastor Criswell is very down to earth. He does not want to be praised.
