Yesterday was my first visit to Tierra Nueva but it won't be my last. I have been looking for a produce market closer to me than the Houston Farmers Market and this place fits the bill nicely.
They have a wide assortment of FRESH fruits and vegetables, all at a reasonable price. I was looking for certain items that are hard to get elsewhere, such as Chile Moritas since I make my own Chipotles in Adobo Sauce, but they had them. They also had chilpetains which I use for hot sauce, Poblanos, Green Onion, Roma Tomatoes etc.
In addition, they have many different assorted dried herbs and spices. Look closely, I'm sure you'll find what you need here.
They also have a wide selection of Mexican art, cookware and knick-knacks.
The first worker who waited on me did not speak English too well, but she went and got another worker who did. I expected this, since this a MEXICAN owned produce market and they do cater to the Hispanic market, but I still got everything I needed.
So i enjoyed the trip and I will be back since I want to start buying more fresh fruits and vegetables. If you go, take your time, look around and you will get what you need, at a close to retail grocery pricing.
Tierra Nueva is located at Crosstimbers and Irvington and they are open 7 AM to 6 PM Monday through Saturday, and 7 AM to 11 AM on Sundays. Have fun!
I'll add photos on my next trip there. I was there today ( August 3, 2024) but forgot to...
