I'm a proud alum (BS in Nursing, '99) and proud herd fan! Hoping to be a proud Marshall mom in a few years as well. That's my personal experience. Objectively, I can say Marshall is an all around excellent school. Professors are great, courses aren't overloaded, as in teacher to student ratio. It's not a huge party school. Huntington is a nice place to live. A small city with plenty of things to see and do when you're not studying. Academics is encouraged, as well as core values and work ethics, and of course sports. Actually, maybe it is because of sports, because of the plane crash and the history of building something great out of nothing, Marshall excels in these other areas. That history is a huge part of Marshall University. It's in the air. If you come to Marshall from privilege and have never had a single struggle in your life, my opinion is you'd somehow leave Marshall humbled but proud, willing to work hard, having learned sometimes setbacks make us great, if you work hard. Back to one last personal note, if you learn nothing else in college, isn't that a pretty great thing to learn? I feel lucky I got to be surrounded by a campus full of those people. Some learning it, some living it, some teaching it. We...
Read moreHUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University running back Steward Butler was arrested early Wednesday on battery charges alleging that he beat a same-sex couple.
The Huntington Herald-Dispatch reports:
The charges stem from the April 5 beating of two men, moments after they kissed at 5th Avenue and 9th Street in Huntington. Criminal complaints charge Butler witnessed the kiss, exited a passing vehicle and proceeded to shout derogatory words toward both men related to their sexual orientation.
Butler then struck the face of both victims with a closed fist, the complaints charge.
Huntington Police Detective Chris Sperry, who said one of the victims captured the attack on video, called the beating unfortunate. He said the victims, regardless of their sexual orientation, should be able to live their life without such violence.
The charges, filed Wednesday, are misdemeanor violations. Sperry said he has turned over evidence to the FBI for its review of any civil rights violations.
Cabell County court records show Butler, 23, was arraigned before a magistrate, and released on $10,000 bond.
Marshall’s athletic department said it was gathering information on Butler, a senior, and would handle the matter “internally and...
Read moreAs a current student in the College of Business and one currently working as an intern, I find it outrageous that I pay over 6k a semester given that most of the classes have 1 professors to choose from with 1 time of day available. It makes working for an internship incredibly hard and difficult to get a good amount of time with hands-on experience in the field. With that said Mrs. Price has to easily be the worst Professor/teacher I’ve ever had the displeasure of having (this is also the only teacher available for some of the Accounting classes so it’s not like you have a choice). Overall though, all the other experiences I’ve had have been great and Mrs. Lanham is easily the best accounting professor I’ve had. All my other classes have had decent or great professors besides maybe 3 of them. One of the worst parts about being a commuter is the horrible road conditions, while they’ve done great keeping the campus looking great. The driving conditions are by far the biggest hindrance in this aspect. Great community and great history, including the movie ‘We...
