I just want to thank you so much for recovering my, what was thought to be completely lost, external hard drive. Between all the family videos, pictures, business documents… so many irreplaceable memories and things that were extremely important to me and couldn’t bear to part with, have now been recovered thanks to you. I have now learned my lesson with this in many ways. My hard drive had been fried from a power surge due to a lightning storm, I was not very smart and left it plugged into the wall all the time, which you should never do. Because of that the circuit board that connects everything to the computer for it to read would not work. I tried calling the company I bought it from and there was nothing they could do. They told me it sounded like I was going to need to contact a data recovery company to hopefully save all the data on the drive. Unfortunately I didn’t listen and decided to call a couple of local computer companies to see if they could do anything. (BIG MISTAKE). After taking it to 2 different computer companies (not data recovery) and them messing with my drive (including taking it out of the cage and therefore scratching it, freezing the drive and trying to download data) no one was able to do anything. Little did I know they from them trying to fix it they actually made it worse. At that point I knew my only option was data recovery. I didn’t want to ship it to California because I worried about it getting there and being knocked around and ruined more. So I googled data recovery places in Utah and found Utah Data Recovery located in Logan. I called and talked to Jamie and told him my situation. I was very impressed with them and decided to drive it up to Logan myself. I paid the $95 diagnostic fee for them to look at it to see what the damage was and if it was recoverable. About a week later they called me back and told me how much it would be if it was indeed recoverable, the only bad part was because the circuit board had been scratched (from the first company) and then frozen (from the second company), what would have been actually a fairly simple recovery had I brought it to them initially, was now a very hard and complex recovery that would require a “clean room” process which is extremely expensive. And they weren’t even sure after doing that if it would work. I was devastated and wanted to cry. I wanted and needed that data so badly, but I was so mad at myself and at the other 2 companies because of their stupidity were now costing me triple what I would have had to pay to get this fixed. Usually this type of recovery would take anywhere from 2 days to roughly 2 weeks to recover. From start to finish mine took about 6 weeks. Utah Data Recovery didn’t give up on my drive. They tried EVERYTHING they could and ran into a lot of dead ends that honestly seemed completely hopeless as far as getting my data back. But they finally were able to recover it and I am so incredibly happy and thankful for that! Lessons learned: if you have valuable data that needs to be recovered… take it to an actual data recovery company, like Utah Data Recovery, because otherwise those other places could end up ruining your drive even more because they don’t know what is all involved and how critical and delicate those drives actually are. I’m very lucky to even have my data, because of how badly the other 2 screwed it up and damaged it more. Thank you Utah...

I am very impressed with this company. They made an honest mistake and have done everything they can to try and remedy it. After hearing about our experience they reached out to my mom and offered a refund and also other resources to try to recover her photos. They also said they were re-training staff on policies to ensure our experience was not repeated with another client.

The Refund is great but to also retrain staff shows they truly care about their business and customer experience. Their dedication to customer service and satisfaction is outstanding and a rare find nowadays.

Based on this, I’m changing my original review and am recommending anyone with data recovery needs give these guys a shot.

Original review: Found these guys through google and after reading some good reviews decided to send off my mom's phone that had gone through an accidental factory reset and she lost all her photos.

Paid $100 down and they said they'd look into it. They had the phone for two weeks and sent it back along with a invoice for an additional $300. They said they had recovered 70+ photos out of a possible 500+ photos. Upon review of the USB they sent, I discovered they did not retrieve a single photo. On the referral of a Salt Lake computer repair shop, I sent a laptop hard drive with significant damage to a company in California for data recovery. It was a disaster, involving, among other things, a total lack of communication on their part. A year later, with the company claiming multiple failed attempts at recovery, I asked them to return the hard drive, and on the basis of excellent reviews, decided to take a chance with Utah Data Recovery, if for no other reason than to confirm my data was not recoverable. Within 24 hours, I had been contacted by UDR, who asked me to provide all the information I could on what had happened. They even tried multiple times (not surprisingly unsuccessfully) to contact the California company to try to ascertain what they had done to the drive. Within a couple of days, I received a detailed analysis and prognosis, and less than a week after receiving my drive, UDR had successfully recovered ALL of my data!
