Natural Grocers — Local services in Iowa City

Was in the store early Saturday morning at about 9:30 AM. The man checking out at the register before me tried to give the lady his spare change incase anyone else needed it I'm assuming. The lady at the register absolutely would not take it because it would throw off her drawer. So up next was my boyfriend and I come to find out my boyfriend knows the lady I believe her name was Dianne. She starts complaining right off the bat that apparently he put 2 different apples in the same bag and complained because they have to be rang up separately. Cool. Then as she's ringing us up she is just pounding away at her computer typing in the codes. My boyfriend proceeded to ask her twice how she was doing no response what so ever from her! Then looks at us and ask a question about the apples she's ringing up like we're supposed to answer her after she ignores us. My boyfriend then said it's fine I'll just talk to your manager . Of course she then speaks up right away after this and I said yeah we asked you how your doing twice and you ignored us. She then tries to play it off as she can't hear. But heard us very well when we would just speak to the manager about...

HORRIBLE customer service. Bought an item that was on sale. Didn’t like it so the next day I took it back to exchange it. The assistant manager on duty said she could not do anything for me because it was final sale as it was expiring the day I bought it therefore last day they could sell. Let them know that I hardly ever come to Natural Grocers so I’m not aware of all their policies and there was no sign on their sale cart saying those items were final sale. Not even help with a one time courtesy exchange. Not even considerate of the possibility that perhaps because it was expired it was not good. I asked if it was just too bad and my money is lost and all she could say was yes. Save yourself a trip here and go shop at the farmers market, bread garden or pioneer co-op if you want your organic and Whole Foods options ! I would give it 0 stars if I could. I even had the receipt and purchased several items. Not a great way to retain or sustain...

It pays to check your receipts when shopping at this store. They always overcharge. When I check out, the items on sale still have the original prices rather than the discount prices, especially for fresh produce and dairy produce. It happened not less than 9 out of 10 times. It is hard for us to discover when we buy many things. They always give an excuse, like the sale sign should be removed, or someone erased the number before the decimal of the price and etc. I am a researcher. My professional knowledge tells me that if they were random mistakes, then there should be roughly the same number of undercharges as overcharges. However we are always overcharged (the sample size is not as big as 10K observations admittedly but I was a frequent shopper). I would not give it any stars if I can. The products are good. But they sell dairy products beyond the best-used date. I would appreciate it if they can be honest...
