And here we are again at my favorite place in Iowa City since moving here but I’ve noticed a few things that this place needs to correct. Portion size. If I’m paying for an ORDER of chips and guacamole which is extra, I expect a good sized portion. It was brought to me in a plastic cup which is unacceptable being as every other place I’ve ever had Mexican food from serves it on a dish or nice bowl with garnish. They do the same for the chips and salsa. I waited what felt like 10 minutes to actually have anyone take my order and that person was the cook who saw me waiting to order as the 2 servers felt it was a good time to do cash register training instead of attending to the customer. Any time I come in here it’s a problem with getting someone to take your order in a prompt fashion. I do like their food, but no honesty. I have been to way better places that serve way better food. And a good size portion for your money. they’re a four minute drive from where I live so it’s convenient when I don’t feel like traveling down the road seven or eight minutes when I’m not feeling good to go to another place And they are conveniently located close to my job. Aside from that I’d probably steer clear and go somewhere that tends to their customers and gives you more for your hard...
Read moreI would like to note that I rarely ever leave bad reviews, but I’ve been going here for a while now, and I feel like I’ve finally just hit my end point with them. When ordering tacos, they should have cilantro, onion, lime, and the meat, so please tell me why they seem to be prepared different each time? Today, mine came with iceberg lettuce and some extremely hot smokey sauce? So hot I couldn’t even enjoy it. I’ve also gotten the sauce with only onion before too? I literally reordered the same thing I always do yet it amazes me how one item can be so different each time. Now, they’ve also made their sauce to-go containers smaller, so while you’re paying 3.99 for SALSA (that is free with entree at any other restaurant) it is now in a smaller container (around 6 oz). Their burritos and chicken quesadillas are bland & you could easily make them at home. Lastly, if you do pickup, know that their estimated time of completion is NEVER right. I typically add 10 minutes on, but sometimes it’s still not ready. Today, it said it’d be ready in 15 & I came from North Liberty so it took me around 30 minutes AND IT STILL WASN’T READY. I’m just over this place at this point and their constant inconsistencies. Not worth the price, time, or...
Read moreI thought I was in for a nice surprise after I ate the chips and salsa. The chips were nice and the salsa was pretty good, but the rest of the food was very bland and dry. I got a steak burrito(it fell apart), one steak taco, and two birria beef tacos(they were out of goat). The steak tasted like it had been cooked and sat for some time and didn't even taste like it had any seasonings at all. The birria was ok at best, but still fairly bland. The burrito, which was in a diner style red basket fell apart as soon as I started eating it, and the rice, which I assume was Mexican style rice looked like white rice was also tasteless. The server barely served me, and asked if I was ready to pay before I even finished eating.
As I was leaving, I noticed a table that hadn't been cleaned yet still had plenty of rice left on a couple of the plates, so I'm sure I wasn't the only one who felt the rice was not very good. Chips and salsa are the only thing...
