Red Ginger — Restaurant in Iowa City

Unfortunately a bad experience for us. Started with noticing one of people working the sushi bar and serving was sneezing and coughing a ton, including behind the sushi bar. No mask. The miso soup I ordered was lukewarm at best and had hardly any tofu, seaweed, or green onion. Truly just broth. Ordered two rolls, received one and it was quite mushy. Flavor was ok. My partner got four veggie rolls and luckily liked them all. I was told the other roll I ordered was coming but took longer to make and would be just a couple minutes. Totally fine except it took so long it got to a point I just figured they forgot and we were ready to leave. After I put my coat on 20 minutes later, the other roll was brought out. It wasn’t a cooked roll- literally imitation crab wrapped in cucumber. Nothing fancy. I couldn’t understand how it took so long and I didn’t want it at that point but felt bad they made it so I took it to go. Upon receiving our check I was disappointed that the price was more than what was advertised on their menu. It said the roll (that came very late) was $9.95 on the menu but my bill said it was $11.95. Honestly think it should’ve been discounted if anything given the wait for it. I would not ever...

Excellent food at reasonable prices. My wife and I were looking for a nice evening out and decided to try Red Ginger. The ambiance is nice, very tasteful and modern feeling to me. Even when it was full and got louder we didn't need to raise our voices to talk. There are a Lot of sushi options, both cooked and raw, including a number of vegetarian options. The rest of the menu is varied with enough options that it took us awhile to decide. The staff were friendly and our server was attentive even when the restaurant got busy. As a vegetarian I wished there were a few more options but there are still enough to let me try new things for a number of visits to come. We were pretty close to stuffed but shared a slice of the tempora cheesecake which we would recommend to anyone who isn't lactose...

Wow. The specialty rolls are worth it!! The Super volcano roll is my favorite so far!! Relatively quick service. Good presentation, extraordinary taste in the rolls, Super volcano roll 1st pick. 2nd is the Godzilla roll then 3rd Pink Lady roll and then the Sexy Lady roll. Can't wait till the next time I'm in town. The young lady that was waiting on us was, busy...it was difficult to get her attention as we wanted to add to our order. Not to pick on this topic but it seems like they needed more help. As the waiters were also clearing the tables, instead of helping the guest.
