Left a bad taste in my mouth and this was my first visit. After inquiring about my son joining the all boys class, I was told that it would be Wednesday at 5:30. I should have noticed the red flag when I was told to just show up for class; my email address or no other vital information was requested to preregister as I've experienced with other gyms. When we get there to check in for the all boys class at 5:30, the lady up front didn't ask any questions, and wrote me a slip to give to the teacher when class starts with the 5:30 time listed (with my son's name spelled wrong). So at about 5:40 and after my son asks when he starts, I asked another parent there how the process works for class; she was about the friendliest one anyway. She took it upon herself to ask "the receptionist" about the class and even asked the teacher I spoke with, who had already started another class. The parent comes back out to tell me that the class was actually from 4:30 to 5:30. Meanwhile, the receptionist is giving me a blank stare even though she sees that I'm frustrated when I'm explaining what I was told; she even mentioned that she doesn't work on Wednesdays and doesn't know what's going on ( no excuse and doesn't have anything to do with me). I then walk down to the class to see if my son could join another class and make it worth our 45 minute trip. When I get to the door, the teacher peeps around and gives a "smile" but never apologizes or doesn't even acknowledge that there has been a misunderstanding. As a matter of fact, the parents apologized more than the staff! Smh...I call back once I leave after not being okay with the apologies from the parents, who were not responsible, and the mediocre apology from the receptionist, and request to speak with the owner. All I can say is that I have not received a return call after calling twice. These guys obviously take pride in disappointing children who come for a trial class and are not conscious of first impressions. My son had been geared up all week to attend after we got recs from two different gyms who did not have a program that we are looking for. It would have been considerate to at least have someone speak with me directly regarding the error, but maybe they feel they're receiving enough income already to worry about one person. Remember, word of mouth travels a long...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām very thankful that Lake Murray Gymnastics offers an all-boys class, which was the main reason we switched to this gym. My 6-year-old son loves gymnastics and shows natural talent, so we were hopeful about the opportunity to eventually try out for the competitive team.
The boys move through approximately five stations during their hour-long class. The structure is generally the same each time, but thereās usually a different instructor each week. As a parent, Iād prefer more consistency, especially for younger kids who thrive on routine.
One of our concerns has been the lack of clear communication. We took the summer off, and I havenāt received any email updates regarding team tryouts or next steps. From talking with other parents, it seems tryouts are typically in June, but clearer, more proactive communication from the gym would be appreciated.
The gym itself has a strong, sweaty odor, especially compared to other facilities weāve visited, which makes the atmosphere a bit less inviting. While there is a viewing area for parents, it can be difficult to watch closely since multiple classes are happening at once and sometimes far from view.
I would also love to receive more feedback from instructors about how my son is progressing and what he can work on at home. At times, Iāve noticed some children acting out or wandering, and not all instructors seem to correct the behavior, which can distract kids who are trying to focus.
Overall, we appreciate that this gym offers a boys program and the potential path to competition, but weāre still deciding whether the financial and structural aspects make it the right long-term fit for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had a birthday party this past weekend and we were unfortunately disappointed. We were so excited because weāve been to the gym before and itās very nice , well our party was scheduled to start at 1pm, I walked in at 12:45 to set up and the gym was dark and I saw nobody. So I proceeded to set up and the women walked out of the gym at 12:50ish and didnāt even say anything to me , she just stood and stared at me. At 1:03 , my daughter asked if she could go in the gym since our time had started and she literally said āNo.ā My husband and I just looked at each other and I doubled checked the time and we just stood there confused. She opened it a few minutes later , but still just weird. Our party was due to last until 2:30 , when we started opening presents at 2:05 she went ahead and locked the gym up at 2:10 , and when the kids asked to play while my daughter opened presents she told them no. Sorry but if im paying over $200 to be in the gym it better be open the whole duration of the party. Then when I went to thank her , all she said was āso whoās payingā. Just really nasty and pushy. Just thought Iād share my not so great experience incase youāre thinking about renting for your childās party . You will pay a lot and not get let in even when itās your time , and get pushed out early. And overall it just felt awkward to be there with how...
