I showed up with my family, really excited to play this course. We live in the Upstate and do not get to play courses like this, claimed to be nice, beautiful, tough, etc. We were expecting to pay $90-ish per person for the round, but also expected the course to be in a condition that was worth this price. We showed up early to warmup, only to find out the only driving range was on the Links course, and when we asked if we could use it, David from the pro shop said “I mean, you could”, but gave us no instructions or directions. So instead, we just went to the practice green and putted around. The starter was very nice and helped us out. The course itself was flooded and the greens had just been punched. We had no idea. We booked our tee times online but called before we booked and there was no mention of punched greens. They charged us full price, with it coming to $104 per person. The views were beautiful and the course played tough, as expected, but the greens were in terrible shape. They were punched and obviously just spray painted. They had sand on them to help the grass grow. Standing water was throughout the entire course, all the bunkers were flooded— and yet after all of this, they still charged full price. We got through the round, still having fun, but went into the pro shop after and spoke to David, expecting some sort of resolution, but he said there was nothing they could do. Any reputable course would have helped, giving a discount or partial refund. If we knew the conditions previously, we could have found another course that at least met the expectations.
The course is beautiful but the staff was unhelpful and the greens were terrible. Not worth it.
$100 is a lot of money to pay for a course that I can get better conditions on in a $25 local muni course...
Read moreI’ve been golfing here for 8 years, most of those with the friends and family discount card. We all love the course. It feels like we’re on vacation even though we live here. Went golfing today May 30th, and had a less than stellar interaction with David the desk worker at the club house. My card expired months ago, and every time we go David still punches my card and says next time he will give me a new card. This guy also wrote the wrong date and year the last time I re-upped my card. Today he took my card and didn’t let me get a new card. I’m definitely not one to speak up, much less write a review, but every time we’re out there, this David guy has a new set of rules for that day. I felt disrespected by this guy when we’re all just trying to get away and play a round of golf at our favorite hometown course. I lost 8 punches on my card and a lot of respect for the club house customer service. We golf at Wild Dunes way more than ten times a year and I’ve never had a problem until now. I watched David write the wrong date ( 3/30) on the guys card ( today’s date is 5/30) who was in front of me then argue with the customer until he reluctantly changed it to the correct date by using a pencil eraser to erase pen ink. I’m sorry but this David guy is a character and maybe less than all there upstairs. All of this would have been avoided if he did his job correctly months ago. I have and use- frequently- the friends and family discount card for the wonderful added benefits but what is the point if he is going to decide to change the rules whenever he chooses.
Generally the entire staff are excellent at what they do and we love our small talk with the friendly starters, no matter who...
Read moreMy family was at Isle of Palms for a destination wedding, and we played Charleston Natl and the Harbor course. I'm 67 y/o, with an 8 handicap, and I've played all over the US, but never in SC. I spoke to the pro shop on 3 occasions prior to arriving, and they never mentioned that the Faldo course is better, although more $$, they never mentioned the lack of parking, or the driving/practice range is 1 1/2 miles from the first tee. It took us 25 min to park, finally stopped and asked an attendant what to do, and he said to park in the parking garage, which nobody in the pro shop mentioned. However, you can't get into the garage without a resort ticket. Would have been nice to know that earlier, snce we finally found parking on some back road behind the pro shop. By the time we parked, found out we had to drive our car to the driving range, then had to find another parking spot, we had time to hit about 6 balls, after arriving 45 min before our Ttime. The course is a good Muni track, at best. The greens have been overtaken by Poa Anna in addition to some sort of tif Bermuda, which leads to inconsistency. They're slow, really slow, and bumpy as Hell. I play a semi-private course in Phoenix with tif Bermuda greens which are much better. The layout is a complete joke, 9 holes straight into the wind, 9 holes with the wind quartering to our back. The starter bragged about how the course is in great shape, again, it's a good Muni tract. If you're gonna spend $100, play Charleston Natl or pay more and play the Faldo course. This place markets that it's Tom Fazio's first design, I'm surprised ol' Tom got a chance to design #2. It's a tourist...
