The gym itself is nice and the equipment is too but they lack a lot of space. They are not equipped to handle the influx of people they get at about noon till about 3 then from 5-8pm. If I go at either of those time windows on a weekday I have to work around everyone else, sometimes not using what I need because someone is always on it. I literally have to wait until 8PM every weekday to get in unless I’d like to wait 10-30 mins, 2-3 people ahead of me, on equipment, or have them waiting in line behind me. Likewise I could go very early at 6AM but I’m usually working by then as are most people or they’re at least starting their mornings. The bench area for dumbbells is always overcrowded especially with kids just hanging out in groups on their phones. In 7 months of going I’ve only ever used that area once.. Likewise with the deadlift area. Have never even touched it because they’re always full. Like most people I’m there to do specific workouts not stand around and wait.
Equipment breaks every now and then leaving you with one machine for ALL these people. It often stays broken for a month + as well. They did add a whole row of cable machines which was much needed and nice but I’d rather opt for a whole row of benches or at least some we can move to a more spacious area away from the overcrowded area (assuming there isn’t a class going on over there). They also have their classes that are quite annoying when you can hear their music and yelling on loud speakers over your headphones only because they’re held smack dab in the middle back of the gym.
Gyms are equivalent to their customers no matter how nice the equipment is imo, and with a large portion being high school and college kids I feel like I’m in a sort of a planet fitness filled with entitled brats that will superset on 3 pieces of equipment all across the gym. It’s kind of funny seeing a dude put 3 pieces of his belongings on equipment to keep them to himself and not even use 1 for 20 mins till he cycles back to it.
Bottom line they would do well to turn the giant rooms dedicated to cycle or other classes, which are only used during those few hours, as more room for their customers and by doubling the popular equipment. They do have a lot of equipment no one ever really uses. If I could go whenever I wanted, get done anything I needed, all without having to worry about being overcrowded or waiting I’d hands down give them 5 stars. I just can’t when I have 2, 2hr windows to go workout during each weekday. Weekends are hit or miss also. Sometimes they’re busy sometimes they’re not.
Good on them for making the money, I get it, I own a business, but we focus on quality over quantity and that’s just integral to how we operate. I think the USA is kind of getting tired of mass produced, quantity over...
Read moreMy husband and I were members of Bailey’s gym for years. They closed the location we normally used, so we decided to check out other gyms. Crunch had a deal going on to join for 25 cents with no enrollment fee and no 1st month due. Husband decided to do the base membership with a one year commitment. I was going back & forth between base and peak. I thought I might try some group classes. I asked what would happen if I did the peak to start and wanted to change it to base in the future. I was told I could make that change after 2 months. So, I did the peak membership. Now, two months later, I haven’t done a single class. I went in on 3/23 to change my membership to the base plan. I was told that I could make the change, but would now have to pay the enrollment fee of $75. I asked why would I have to pay the enrollment fee. One, I’m already enrolled as a member. Two, when I signed up and became a member there was a no enrollment fee special going on. Three, no one said I would have to pay the fee if I changed it after two months. I asked to speak to a manager. I was referred to Alex, who was not in that day. When I was there on 3/24 I was able to speak to Alex. I explained everything and he said I would have to pay the $75 enrollment fee if I changed membership levels. His reasoning is the base membership normally has an enrollment fee, while the peak does not. He said he didn’t have a way around it in the system (really?!?!). He said if there was a current no enrollment fee special, I could change with no fee. I asked if I paid it, would he put a $75 credit on my account to cover it. He thought for a second and said no. I asked who else I could speak to. He said he would call the franchise owner and see what he said. I asked if the owner could call me. He said no. I asked why not, and he said it was his job and the owner shouldn’t have to get involved in these types of issues. They ran a special on 3/26 to join for 3 cents. I spoke to Alex and asked if he could help me change since there was now an active special. He said he can't do anything other than cancel my current membership and I could do that one online, but, I would then have to pay the $75 annual fee I just paid 2 weeks ago again! I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that a member who is already enrolled, and signed up during a no enrollment fee special, would be required to pay the enrollment fee when changing membership levels. Husband and I signed up at the same time and he didn’t pay any of the fees they are now trying to make me pay if I change levels. We just paid our $75 annual fees. We will gut out this year while my husband is on contract and then find a new gym. Very disgusted with...
Read moreI wish I could give Crunch 5 stars because I love this gym. I’ve been excited about my fitness journey since I started July 2021. The classes are fun and the instructors are amazing. I had a great trainer (Ashley)who was also amazing. However, there were a few billing errors with my personal training and when you are paying over $500 a month for personal training sessions, it matters to get it right. I was double billed once and although I got my sessions, it was an aggravation on my designated account. I also had an instance where they messed up my billing dates and I had to wait for my sessions to restart a week later because of this error. In that situation, I could have chosen they go ahead and bill me again right then but they had already messed up with the billing on my account before so I didn’t want to chance it. They made me sign a contract to agree to advise them 30 days in advance when I want to cancel personal training. I gave Crunch 45 days notice to cancel my personal training yet I was still billed after my cancellation and it’s now 8 weeks later, I have not received my refund. When I try to talk to someone, there really is no sense of urgency to get me my money back. I only cancelled my training because I had surgery and I needed time to heal, but now I won’t be restarting because of the constant billing issues. I’ve reached out to corporate and got no response. I still love the gym, the classes and the people, but I would really like my card refunded and soon and Crunch needs to be as swift about that as they are to charge (overcharge) people’s accounts. This one and only thing makes me lower the rating because it’s a big deal to me and reflects on the integrity of the company. I want to forewarn anyone who is considering training to rethink it before letting Crunch have your account info beyond just having a regular membership. If you join this gym, ONLY take their classes. You don’t need a personal trainer. There are enough classes to really change your physical journey if you commit to them. But don’t spend the extra, especially if you don’t want to fight with billing issues. Please do not reply to my review with the regular “7-10 business days” response as I’ve already been told this 6 times and it’s clearly a lie. At this point, I just need my money back.
So as an update Two weeks after posting this review, my credit card was refunded. I will give the gym one additional star because at the moment I’m still salty about that experience. I love the people and the community and the classes, but Crunch has really got to work on its billing practices. If that’s the one negative about the business, 100% effort needs to be placed to correct...
