Tonight was my first visit to Aldi Food Market. I had no idea what to expect. I was told that they close at 9pm (wrong! They close at 8pm) and was told to bring something to carry my groceries, because they didn't have bags.
I walk in, and there are buggies all over the place. I grab one and the man behind the register yelled "YOU CAN'T TAKE THAT! I NEED IT!" OK, I didn't find out until I was leaving (nobody was willing to tell me) that you have to rent your buggy outside. So, I walk around the entire store loading stuff into my hot/cold bag I had brought with me.
I get to the register & waited for 5 minutes before anyone showed up at the register. Of course, it was the same guy who had already yelled at me. I empty my groceries onto the belt and placed my bag at the end. I even opened it all nice so that he could just toss everything back into it. When I was finished paying, I reach to grab my bag and there were groceries all over the place where he had just threw it all in the general direction. So, being irritated at this point, I start putting my things into the bag, when I see my eggs and bread are on the bottom. I open the eggs and 4 are broken. I calmly place them beside his register and go to the cooler to pick out another dozen eggs and start to leave. The first door opened but the second one wouldn't. I ask him if I was doing something wrong or if it was broken or locked. His response was very loudly "IT'S LOCKED BECAUSE WE ARE CLOSED! WE HAVE BEEN CLOSED FOR 10 MINUTES NOW!" Before I could stop it, I said "DUDE, YOU REALLY ARE AN A#H#e!"
The selection is slim. I could only get about half of the things that were on my list. The prices are good on some items, but not nearly good enough if I have to stop somewhere else to get what was left on my list. Also, not nearly good enough to have to deal with the hateful employees!
I may go to Aldi Again one day, but it will not be the Aldi in Jasper, Al. Tonight will be my first and my last...
Read morePositives...cheap prices on some things. Well lit clean store. Aisles fairly clutter-free. Negatives? Many items have no prices listed. Which means I have to stop what I'm doing to chase down an employee (if you can find one) to check the prices. Good luck with that. I don't even mind bagging my own groceries or paying a quarter for my cart.
Negatives? A lot of the food that's in boxes...are not the mainstream name brand. Imo they're not that great. They taste funny to me. Employees...many are disgruntled sullen people. The ones on the floor. Yeah I get it. You have sore feet. So do a lot of your customers. After working all day, come to Aldis and be treated like a 2nd class citizen.
Don't bother filling out those tell us survey forms. Corporate does not care. All they care about is that you shut up and swipe. No thanks. I'll cut corners on other things in my life and shop at higher end grocery stores who have good food and friendly...
Read moreThe store was set up nicely and looks very clean. The employees were very nice and I had several offer to help me. I bought the exact same things I buy at Walmart weekly and literally only saved a few cents. Some of the prices seem better at first glance but when I checked the quantity and did the math it was all just a no go for me. However I do like their "Rent a grocery cart" system. There's just no reason to leave carts all over the parking lot. I'm not a brand loyal person but I do like a big selection and this store doesn't offer that. The store was nice, the employees were nice but I couldn't get everything on my list there. The parking, entrance & restroom are all wheelchair accessible and that's a huge plus to me and the restroom was clean and well stocked & has an easily accessible diaper...
