One of the most fun things to me is to visit Costco stores wherever I visit. I know that sounds weird, but each store has a section that stocks items that are unique to the area. This location in Juneau, Alaska is supposedly "the world's smallest Costco," and I have no reason to doubt that claim. This is a compact yet fully stocked warehouse that's a blast to browse!
The parking lot is small, and the store is located off the main drag. there's a spectacular towering mountain as a backdrop. This Costco is tiny but has everything you may need. Note that prices, especially on produce, are a lot higher than you'd expect back home. For example, we regularly buy the huge bags of fresh oranges in Las Vegas for $8 a bag. Here, they cost $11. But it's a landlocked Alaskan town, so that's to be expected.
I got a kick out of the Alaska-specific items on offer, like value packs of bear spray and clam guns. They sell a lot of gear that's useful for campers and people going fishing, too. There are even crab traps for sale!
This location has a very tiny snack bar that's extremely popular with the locals. And yes, their famous hot dog still costs $1.50 here. Note that this location does NOT have a fuel center. They DO utilize the new scanner machines at the door, so you can easily use the electronic version of your membership card on your phone for easy and quick access (in case you forgot to bring your physical, plastic membership card).

Read moreThe merchandise and products they sell are of good quality and low prices as one would expect. However I was followed around my entire visit by a staff member assuming I was stealing. She did not try to even hide her displeasure and I have never felt more judged and uncomfortable in a store than I did during this experience tonight. It was uncalled for and she could have handled her suspicions with more couth or at least waited until I got to the gentleman who checks your receipt. Then as the receipt and my three items were verified to have been purchased I also opened my purse for a general inspection as to make a point that she just wasted valuable time following around a paying customer who in fact did not have anything stolen in the bag when she could have been displaying better customer service by seriously doing anything else. It would have been petty to forgo the purchase since the prices were great and all of Costco shouldn't be blamed on one bad customer experience however when you visit beware there is a chance you will be made to feel as though you are a criminal. I was dressed professionally and carried a shoulder bag that wouldn't even have concealed the three clothing items I purchased which were a staggering 10, 5 and 9 dollar items. This was a disappointment and caused me to immediately write...
