I was really excited to find out that this school offers CNC machining program. After visiting them and taking tour of the shop, I got even more excited. Building itself is in a beautiful location just under the mountains. People were really nice, and the recruiter answered all of my questions. I wanted to take about 5-6 classes, just to get more hands on training, learning, and experience, I was not interested in completing the entire program because I have a certificate from SLCC already. They were very nice and accommodating. I could take any class I wanted, and tuition was due at the time of registration. So I went home, registered, and went in the next day to sign up for classes and pay my fees. Next day I went in paid $45 non refundable registration fee, and $330 fee for the class.
Very next week the class started and this is where the red flags started showing up. Before I say more, let me tell you that I 100% understood that this is learn at your pace program. Which means there is no instructor that teaches you material, they are there just for questions and support. I was 100% ok with this. However, I walked in the class and couldn't find a teacher for 30 minutes. This was first red flag. Yes I know this is learn at your own pace, but on my first day I expect an instructor to show me how to get started, and I expect them there on time since their policy is very strict on being on time. If you are 20 minutes or more late you are marked as absent and that's it.
Once I found an instructor he was talking to another student. I waited next to the desk. While this student had some good questions, the instructor barely made any eye contact while answering the questions. He wasn't being rude at all, but he gave no attention to the student, that a student of such institution should have from an instructor. This was my second red flag.
I was next, I walked up and said "hello, its my first day, I've read all the orientation documents and I am not sure where to go next and how to get started", he said "write your name and student number down, and I will be with you in just a second". I wrote my name down and went back to the desk and I was reading some more about the program. Turns out that Davis Tech uses tooling university website to teach classes. This is something that costs $75 a month for you to do on your own. I have also taken about 32 classes from tooling university and was not interested in doing it this way again. By the way, on top of the cost of the class, you are required to purchase your own tooling u. subscription, as well as tools and material that is necessary for class. I also read that there are project books in the class library that we will work out of, after I went and looked at those, I saw they were missing instructions and missing pages.
I waited for full two hours for the instructor to show up. I read all this material in 30 minutes and I just waited there. I tried to find him two more times and he was nowhere to be found. I packed my stuff and I left. The next day I went to get my $330 back, and they gave me the money back after waiting for 20 minutes on one person that was the only capable one to return the money. I can say goodbye to $45 registration fee, as well as my time driving to get there 30 minutes one way. I was fine to sacrifice money and time to go through this, but I wouldn't recommend this program to anyone that is serious about machining. If you are a high school student, and you live in the area, than yes. High school students get the program practically for free, it's a great trade and you should give it your best shot. If you're an adult and are familiar with basics, save your time and money and check out Titans of CNC online academy.
Maybe I just had a bad experience, but I am tired of how incompetent most of the people and businesses are, and if I give you my money, I expect service for that money, and that service meas the teacher needs to be there when I show up in class for first time. On the bright side, people are nice and the environment...
Read moreThis school is a joke & a half especially the staff, profoundly the ones in the composites program. So I go to orientation for school, I got off work at 630am from Salt Lake, orientation isn't until 10 for some dumb reason & it's only an hour, could have been an email & it couldn't have been when classes normally would start at 8, whatever so I just hung out at the school in Kaysville, I live in Ogden so I didn't want to drive home from work then waste gas to go back out to Kaysville so I hung out at the school for 2 extra hours. I go into the classroom ten minutes til orientation time. One of the instructors jokingly said I look lost so I laughed & just told him I'm there for orientation. He told me awesome & his name & to just hang tight in the computer lab & clock in if it'll let me, if not, no big deal because it's not my official first day & they can manually put it in. So obviously I couldn't so indeed no biggie, I waited... And waited... And waited for 20 minutes past the hour.. one of the instructors said "oh did we forget about you??" (Noooo I'm just gladly sitting here wasting my time with y'all with this "orientation" while y'all mess around elsewhere) So she just bum rushed me through the orientation list especially since it was twenty minutes into the hour already, had me try to log into canvas. Also said that some of the coursework is inaccessible for everyone because a teacher recently quit & locked most of the course work. Tight so how can we learn?? I didn't have a password for canvas, too which was "cool", they told me student services gave me that when I registered. I told them, "no, they did not". So they obviously don't care, don't know what they're doing and/or they're just slow. Avoid this "school" especially composites...
Read moreI think I had a much different experience than other people who have reviewed.
In 2016 I graduated the welding program but since then I have been unsuccessful in getting a welding job and making more than minimum wage, I don't think I was provided with any skills that make me look appealing to employers. All of the night teachers were fired during my time there. There was no outside opportunity presented like skillsUSA as that is probably for only day people.
Despite that I tried to go again in 2021 for Information technology, that was an even worse experience, I completed the program but have since had no luck at getting any beginning IT job. I do not feel any confidence in anything I learned.
Going to night school here feels like to me that no effort is put into it. For the information program I can confidently say that only three teachers there actually care and will do their job and give actual feedback on wrong questions on assignments or tests, instead of marking everything correct even if it's blank or blatantly wrong. There is no enforcement of rules in the classroom either.
The testing center when I was going there only had hours for day people so if you had a job that didn't get off till 5 and then had a long drive in you were completely out of luck unless you had vacation days or sick days from your job to go in, but if you're like me it's not like you'll have a job that will provide any of those things (hence why you're at school).
I'm probably alone in my experience as everyone I've know who has gone here are all in good jobs and have flourished.
Honestly I'm probably just too stupid for college let alone technical "college".
So your experience will probably be...
