On November 18, 2024 I leased a storage unit at Storage Rentals of America, Yorkville, IL. I moved some items there that I only needed for 2 weeks, I told them I would be canceling prior to the first of the month. On November 28th I went to the storage unit to remove my items and the gate code pad was out of service. I called the customer service line and they said it was broken and they would have someone out there as soon as possible. I called on the 29th, 30th, December 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Finally on the 3rd they said the gate was fixed and I could come get my things and I would be receiving a full refund. I got my things on December 5th in the evening because that was the soonest I could, when I got there I noticed the side gate was wide open, not the main gate that you put your code in. Everyones things were not protected as said in the contract and anyone was able to get in. Called December 6th to make sure my refund would be processed and to complain about the gate being open. The representative said they would not issue me a refund of any kind. Looks like there are many comments just like mine with the gate not working and poor customer service. Disputing the charge with my bank. Adding to my original review since Storage Rentals of America wants to lie and make it seem like my review is false. I have added my actual receipt. So pathetic of...
Read more12/30/23 Update: After being a tenant for only 6 months, I was just informed that my rental rate would be increasing by 20%, citing increased operating costs. This feels more like a Deceptive Business Practice. A tenant is lured in with reasonable rates, moves their belongings into the facility, and then the rates start going up. The business knows how inconvenient it is to have to pack up, and find another facility to store their belongings, so the tenant is more than likely going to grudgingly accept the rate increase. If this is standard business practice, then it's time the law was changed to protect the tenant from the leasing agent. I've already reached out to our state representative in hopes they take interest in this, especially since storage facilities have been popping up all over the Chicagoland suburbs. I'd hate for anyone else in my position to be taken advantage of.
On the bright side, the building lights are finally on at night.
The facility lights do not come on at night, so the entire facility is dark at night.
No keypad to exit the facility. I live nearby, got in, but couldn't get out. Had to hop the fence.
There are a few vehicles bring stored that are in bad shape, leaking fluids, flat tires, torn covers. I don't know if there are standards for liability etc.
Otherwise a nice, quiet...
Read moreThis storage unit on Bridge street in Yorkville is a joke. I've had my unit since last Friday. I tried several times to get into the gates, I have tried several times to use the code I was given, and the gate will not open. I have also used the temporary code they have given me, and the gate will not open. I haven't been able to use my unit at all since I got it Friday. They need to fix that damn gate. This is not customer satisfaction. I've had two locations with the same problem where the gate does not work. I am having a very difficult time working with these people to cancel out my storage units and get a refund back. I've also have a unit over on Wolf street and that did the same thing too where the gate did not open with the code I haven't used any...
