Modern Mobler — Local services in Kensington

When my mother passed away, I contacted several entities to see if they had interest in her Danish Modern or antique furniture. I chose to sell the Danish Modern furniture to Modern Mobler. The price was comparable to the other offer I received, but Modern Mobler understood that my goal was get the furniture out of her home as cost-effectively as possible. It therefore offered to take many more pieces than the other buyer.

It was very flexible in picking up the furniture - taking some of it before I put her home on the market while leaving the rest for staging. It not only took the rest of the furniture right before closing, but delivered a few pieces to a family member's home at the same time.

My husband and I were in town visiting from out of state, and I was so incredibly excited to visit this store, the one in Kensington, in person, as I have been following them on Insta for quite some time. We live in a 1949 home and have found ourselves purchasing mcm pieces we grew up with and had every intention of having something shipped home. Sadly we didn't even feel our presence in the store was desired. The woman present was very rude and made us feel like we should not have been there. Discussing her behavior with our family as we walked along antique row, it was apparent our experience was not isolated. No worries for us. As lovers of mid-century modern, my partner and I very much wanted to like this place. This selection is objectively very good, but the service is very standoffish.

Based on my observations, there seems to be a wide discrepancy in the service quality customers receive. The multiple times we visited we got a quick hello (or no greeting at all), short and curt answers to any questions, but then someone will come in after us and get fawning service. Maybe we look too young to have the budget for their merchandise? I'm not sure. But every time we have shopped here it has felt cold and unwelcoming.
