This establishment discriminated against a breastfeeding mother. I should just end my review right there. That should be enough information to know why I wouldn't recommend that you even let your dog eat here (although I can see from other reviews they wouldn't let your dog in either).
I'm sure you want to hear the story, right? First of all, I'm not one who typically writes reviews or makes a scene, but I feel that people should hear this. I was with my family, party of 8, who collectively live in 4 different states. It's rare for us all to be together. We are here celebrating the life of my 94 year old grandmother who recently passed away. The 6 other people in my party who were eating wanted to eat pizza at a local joint, so who am I to ruin the fun? I am a long standing supporter of local businesses. I have concluded over the last 5 months that my infant son does not tolerate pizza well, so I have temporarily given it up for him. When we arrived, we waited 20 min for a table. During that time, I inquired with their waitstaff, and the only thing they served this evening was pizza or a plain garden salad (no meat etc). Those of you who have breastfed or known someone who has, can support me in the fact that a plain salad is not going to satisfy this starving mom! So, I ran across the street to grab some food for myself that I knew my baby could enjoy as well. After we get to our table, I am informed in very rude and accosting fashion that they do not allow outside food. I calmly explained the situation, stating that the two toddlers at the table are my children (probably need mom's help) and the baby is breastfeeding and is unable to tolerate pizza, basically the only thing they serve. I thought surely after this explanation there would be no further questions. Much to my surprise, she continued to argue with me and I was basically told I could either eat my food later after leaving ( its 7:30 p.m.) or leave. I chose to leave saying that I thought this was ridiculous and sat alone in my car to eat my food. My family offered to leave as well, but after waiting for a table and having two very hungry young children waiting to eat I didn't want to ruin their evening. While I was " enjoying my food" (read fuming) in the car my family talked to the manager. The manager informed them that it was their policy not to allow outside food. Maybe if we had called ahead it would have been okay. By the end of the discussion the manager begrudgingly said okay. At this point, I could not be convinced to come back in out of principle and I honestly was too visibly upset by the way the waitress had handled things.
Breastfeeding mothers face a lot of stress. I personally don't need the addition of ignorant business policies added to the other concerns that face me during this period of motherhood. Although i will go back to eating pizza one day (one of my favorite foods!), I can assure you it will not be here. We will never set foot in this restaurant again and I recommend that you...
Read moreWe went to Frankly...Pizza on a Wednesday evening around 6 and were immediately seated in the outdoor area. Both the indoor and outdoor dining areas are not very large and there were empty tables in both areas. After a few minutes the waitress took our drink order. When the drinks arrived we placed our pizza order and I asked for sweetener for my iced tea. After 10 minutes I had to flag down the waitress to ask for the sweetener again and then after another 10 minutes it finally arrived – we should have taken this for a sign of what was to come. While we waiting for our pizzas, we saw tables throughout the outdoor seating area receive incorrect orders. The wrong salads appeared at one table, they finally got one salad right but the other was still wrong, pizzas were going to the wrong tables. After 50 minutes of waiting for our pizzas, I again flagged down our waitress – who had not stopped by outside of dropping off the sweetener – and asked how much longer it would be because we had been waiting nearly an hour. She did not apologize and said they were slammed. I had to assume it was carry out that was getting slammed because no one was getting pizza in the dining room. I then asked her to check how long it would be because if it was more than a few minutes we just wanted the check for the drinks. She then left the table and for the next 5 minutes walked by our table multiple times but never returned to give us an update. After an hour of waiting we put cash on the table for the drinks and left. As we were walking out we passed the waitress who neither looked at us nor said anything. Based on other comments posted it seems the wait staff needs to be trained not only in the basic responsibilities of the wait staff but also in just basic customer interaction skills. As we were walking out we placed an order at another wood fired pizza place. When we got there 20 minutes later it was ready and good. There are SO many amazing pizza places in MD, DC and VA. If you can’t get your wait staff to do their jobs, there is no reason to...
Read moreBefore heading to DC Temple, Tyler and I had dinner at Frankly...Pizza!, a pizzeria in the heart of Kensington. Reservations for indoor or outdoor dining are encouraged as most nights are fully booked. Their patio is heated and covered. We had an outdoor reservation but were nice enough to allow us to sit inside because of the cold rainy weather. Lily was friendly and attentive.
After glancing over the drink menu, I knew I wanted the Red Shedman Raspberry Hard Cider. As for Tyler, he couldn't decide between two wines (Lobetia Cabernet Sauvignon and Tsp Wines Coted Du Rhone) and it was nice to be able to try both before picking one.
They have a variety of red and white pizza. A pizza can be gluten-free if reserved at least 24 hours in advance and for an additional $4. They are personal size pizza - about 11-12 inches. You may add romano, extra sauce, fresh garlic, EVOO, crimini mushrooms, spinach, basil, arugula, mozzarella, ricotta, olives, roasted peppers, pickled jalapeños, anchovy, pepperoni, house sausage, and house bacon to any pizza for an additional fee. Every pizza is finished with olive oil.
We decided to get two of their most popular pizzas - Spinach Pie and Mushroom Pie. The Spinach Pie consisted of fresh garlic, mozzarella, caramelized onions, spinach, salt, gruyere, romano, and lemon. The Mushroom Pie consisted of mozzarella, crimini mushrooms, shallots, parsley, gruyere, romano, and porcini salt. Between the two pies, we liked the Spinach Pie because it's sweet and savory. We finished on a sweet note. The Lime Cream Cake consisted of coconut graham cracker crust topped with a coconut cream anglaise and lime zest. It was delicate and smooth like a cheesecake. It's definitely worth...
