Sunflowers Consignment — Local services in Kensington

When I shop at Sunflowers, I feel beautiful. It makes shopping fun and it also means that I will always walk out the door with clothes that I KNOW fit perfectly, and for a fraction of what they would cost elsewhere.

Service: Shelley is like a super, super nice Tim Gunn. She knows clothes and how they fit really, really well. If you can't decide on anything, ask her and she will give you the best advice possible, even if it's to not buy a lovely item . Also, she's just a really awesome person to talk to, as are all of the other women who work at Sunflowers.

I normally HATE shopping, but Shelley makes it wonderful.

I found a jacket with the perfect style for me, and asked Shelley what she thought of it, and she was completely honest (and of course kind) with me in responding that it was too big and pointing out the places where it didn't fit. I feel beautiful when I go to Sunflowers.

PRICE:

QUALITY: I got to help sort through clothes under consideration from a consignor, and was really impressed. Again, Shelley knows fashion and clothes so, so well, and has an impeccable eye for selecting only the best clothes -- in pristine condition and never dated.

Futhermore, there is huge variety in the size range, style, brand and, to some extent, price. Still, I've bought more stunning (beautifully made, perfect fit & style, etc) items in the $5-$20 range. However, I also got my prom dress, which is a Sacks Ave-type brand, that would have been out of my price range by hundreds of dollars. I got it for about 50 bucks. I got two gorgeous Nanette Lepore suits, each of which would normally sell for $600, for just $60 at Sunflowers.

There are also other items, including hats, shoes, belts, scarves, jewelry, hats, and sunglasses, all of which are also in pristine condition and never dated.

Shopping at Sunflowers = best shopping...

This tiny store is a gem in Kensington. If you go on the right day you can find treasures from high-end designers like Chloe and Jimmy Choo to cute recent pieces from mall stores like Anthropologie and Ann Taylor. Clothes are only accepted from the last five years so you won’t be wading through old-fashioned fabrics and cuts. And the prices are great! Selection is good but small and constantly changing, so regulars come frequently to see if someone their size just consigned some treasures.

But the best thing about this store is the community. There is a large set of regulars both who live in Kensington and who drive up from other areas just to visit. Shelley, the owner, is one of my favorite people on the planet. She’s funny, she’ll talk to you about anything, and she will give you honest advice about the clothes you try on and help you find the perfect way to wear a new and different style.

Full disclosure: I worked there for several years before graduate school years ago but I miss it so much because both the customers and owner are just so lovely. This review is of course unsolicited, I was just thinking about how great this place is and wishing there was a similar place here...

Been shopping here for years and have never been disappointed nor have I left without finding a new item or 2 or 10😊 I have also consigned things over the years with great success. The owner is amazing! Everything the owner choses to sell is either brand new or clean and in mint condition. A large selection of sizes &.styles most are consigned in mint condition & a vast amount are new and priced well below original tag price. Other delights you will find are beautiful new pieces of unique jewelry, fabulous designer handbags, belts, fun accessory scarves and stylish shoes and boots.
