A couple months ago I found myself driving 1,604 miles in order to spend an entire summer training at Driveline Baseball in Kent, Washington. If you are a player, parent or coach searching the internet for pitching help, most likely you run into sites claiming their program's "quick and easy ways to gain velocity", and sifting through online sales pitches that all seem "too good to be true". Welcome to a place where instead of promising results and promoting illusions of grandeur, you are given access to a wealth of knowledge and tools that are in place and at your disposal to use to improve as a pitcher. Upon entering the facility, athletes are evaluated to ensure they have the necessary strength and mobility to begin a weighted ball throwing program. You will be taken through a series of drills and movements that reinforce healthy and efficient mechanics, under the watchful eyes of trainers with extensive weighted ball experience that are ready to help make adjustments where necessary. You won't find athletes at Driveline that are "over coached" because to be honest there isn't a lot of verbal coaching that goes on here, and that is by design. The drills and movements serve as our best pitching coaches. Working through the movement patterns with great intent is the best way to remap arm patterns and time up the body to produce maximum velocity. With radar guns and cameras scattered throughout the facility, athletes receive instantaneous feedback on all aspects their training. What's measured can be managed and improved and nothing thrown in this warehouse goes unmeasured. Testing days are a continuous record of the ups and downs athletes experience training in-house. That's right, there will be ups and downs. Nothing worth having comes easy in life - and premium velocity is no exception to that rule. Trusting the process, staying the course, and understanding the importance of putting in the effort for both training and recovery will set up any athlete to make substantial improvement from where they began. Those unable to make the necessary sacrifices to make it out to Seattle can instead choose to train remotely. Those willing to get educated and take their training and development into their own hands can take advantage of the new "Driveline U" program. Regardless of the route you take, know you are joining a family of athletes that grows larger every day, all from the vision of a man seeking to change the game of baseball for the better. No manipulating the hearts and minds of ballplayers and parents desperate enough to try anything to chase their dreams of collegiate scholarships, professional contracts, or simply making their high school varsity team or travel squad. Regardless of your goals I encourage you to educate yourself, see through the scams out there, and take total control of your training and your baseball future. I'm forever...
Read moreI TRULY LOVED my time spent training at driveline!!! The trainers and staff REALLY care about developing baseball players of all levels. Settles, Hirsh and Comstock during my gap year from 2023 - 2024 in Kent Washington were my go to guys. They helped me more than I could have ever asked or expected. Spending money and putting in hard work doesn't gaurentee results. Some athletes that train here unintentionally "blame" driveline for not improving as much as they had hoped to. It's pricey to train here. It's an investment in yourself aswell. When all is said and done, as long as you did everything you could and gave baseball everything you had. You can walk away from the game with closure. That's all anyone can ask for at the end of the day.
The only slight issue I had was at times...especially during the summer and winter months. Driveline is a victim of it's own success. Everyone always carried themselves with the utmost professionalism and OVERLY positive attitude. None of the trainers ever complained. I would look at how over packed the facility was during the summer and winter months. I felt so bad for all the trainers especially my go to trainers during these extra busy times. No one ever complained even behind the politically correct smiles, utmost professionalism and at times understandably tired faces. I wish Driveline hired more hitting, throwing and strenght coaches to take some of the work load off these professional trainers that did so much for me going above and beyond. Or maybe pay the trainers double overtime during those months if seasonal hitting and throwing trainers aren't avaliable. It would get...
Read moreTraining at Driveline has been an unbelievably incredible experience for me. I was a pitcher throwing low 80's in the fall and felt like it was impossible to add velocity at this point in my career, especially after getting Tommy John in high school. I was afraid to throw the ball hard and had zero confidence in my stuff. But, after coming to driveline I am already throwing harder than where I was topping out at in the fall. Kyle and the trainers at Driveline have an excellent grasp on how to train pitchers correctly in all forms from throwing, to recovering, lifting, and everything else that contributes to a high velocity pitcher. Training at driveline has not only made me a better pitcher, but I now feel like I have the knowledge in order to continue training on my own while knowing how my mechanics are supposed to look and what a proper throwing schedule should look like on a weekly basis. If you are looking to improve as a pitcher or even a position player looking to add arm strength , there truly is no better place to be...
