Awesome experience!! JR and Jen were great! There were 4 of us, plus a 13-month old baby, and we all had a great time! My husband fishes quite a bit, and has been on a handful of guided fishing tours. This was by far his best/favorite fishing trip! I had never caught a fish before, and I ended up catching 7!! And they weren't little, either! At one point, all 4 of us were reeling in fish all at once (my husband reeled while he held the baby haha), while Jen and JR netted the fish for us. Crazy! It was very common to have 2 or 3 of us reeling in fish at one time. We all limited out on pink salmons, plus we caught 2 silvers and a chum. 27 fish total! We got our licenses on the boat, which was a very quick and easy process. They also know the cheapest ways to process and ship your fish if you want that. The boat is very spacious and clean. There's a toilet available (which we didn't end up needing), and a table and benches inside to eat and relax. They provided fresh fruit, homemade cookies, and a super yummy salmon spread for us to munch on while on the boat. They even have a hose to spray off the deck (and your hands) between catches. They docked the boat right next to our cruise ship, so no shuttle needed. We brought the baby stroller with us (and not a small one, at that). We folded it down and had it out of the way most of the time. Luckily, there was plenty of room to store that and our bags inside. Our baby had a great time eating snacks while he got passed off from person to person! There are also plastic chairs on the deck if you want to sit outside. It was very warm and sunny that day (first week of August). I had worn waterproof ankle boots, which got a little warm, and I even ended up rolling up my pants to cool off a bit. My husband was very happy in his sandals! All in all, it was a great day and the highlight...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of embarking on an Alaskan fishing charter trip with Experience One Charters, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. From the moment we set sail from the picturesque harbor, the breathtaking scenery of Alaska's rugged coastline set the stage for an incredible adventure. The crew was exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly, making everyone feel at ease regardless of their fishing experience. Jen, with her years of local expertise, knew all the best spots to find the most abundant fish. Her passion for fishing and the local ecosystem was infectious, and she was eager to share stories and insights about the area's wildlife and history. The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the fishing itself. However, we were lucky enough to catch a variety of species, including halibut, salmon, and rockfish. The thrill of reeling in a hefty halibut while surrounded by the stunning landscape is something I won't soon forget. The crew was quick to assist with cleaning and filleting our catch, and they even shared some delicious recipes for preparing the fish back home. Beyond fishing, the charter offered the opportunity to witness the incredible Alaskan wildlife. We spotted bald eagles soaring overhead, playful sea otters, and even a pod of orcas in the distance. It was a reminder of the pristine beauty of Alaska's natural...
Read moreCaptain Johny was very friendly and easy to work with to make arrangements for our group of 10. We wanted to do something, but weren't that excited about salmon fishing and Capt. Johny gave us a perfect option - crabbing. It turns out that no one else in Ketchikan is licensed for a group that big and we were lucky enough to secure them for our day in port. They met us on the gangway and escorted our group right to their boat where we enjoyed a warm welcome from Jen and JR. They took us out to a secluded bay and then proceeded to show us how to bait and set crab pots and rings. With their help and encouragement we worked the rings a couple of times and then pulled the pots and had a nice assortment of crab. They showed us how to sex and sort them and we easily had plenty of keepers for a nice lunchtime feast. After clearing the setups they took us to a nice and quiet bay where we learned how to clean them and then boiled the feast up, right on the boat. Obviously it was about as fresh as you could get and quite delicious - enjoyed by all. It's certainly a great option to wandering the regular tourist traps and definitely something that you can't do anywhere. I highly recommend Experience One for the...
