My first experience at Ladera Sports Center today. The two parking attendants were friendly and polite. I didn't have cash so they directed me to an ATM, then I went back to attendants and placed ticket on my dash. Upon entering the facility, I then went to pay my fee to enter the tournament upstairs.
Instead of a greeting, I received a scolding, as the inside attendant noticed my trader joes cooler bag. He advised me that because of our teams behavior yesterday and trashing the place, I absolutely would not be allowed to take my food up. I let him know this was my first time to this facility (as well as our team), to which he replied again, well because of what happened yesterday you can't take it up. He then told me to look around and I'd see that he is keeping food here, which I did see a donut box and Tupperware of goodies and a large cooler on the floor. Had he asked to look in my bag, I would showed him we had all Tupperware and cold water, but he wasn't pleasant so I gave my $7 for entry and left my cooler downstairs, thinking there were only courts upstairs.
Upon walking upstairs, I arrived into a cafeteria/lounge. I'm disappointed and offended that I was unpleasantly greeted and can clearly see that there is an area delegated for food and drink consumption. If there is no outside food or drink for the facility cafeteria food purchases, then kindly advise your guests politely in advance or at the door rather than scolding first time visitors. I do not tolerate anyone not picking up after themselves, but I also find it hard to believe that on top of fees paid to enter the tournament by teams, $15 parking per car & $7 times a few hundred guests wouldn't cover janitorial fees which I'm sure are part of any contract.
Consideration for families who may not have a budget to spend frivolously on neccesities like food fuel and water during a tournament would be appreciated. A suggestion for training of employees on customer service as well is highly recommended. Or take a lesson from your...
Read moreOGP in Ladera is a modern facility with friendly and helpful staff members; however the referees at OGP are abysmal. I never feel more nervous for our players safety than I do at OGP facilities. I’m fed up with the mean, street-ball tactics that the apathetic refs here consistently overlook—they’re here for a paycheck not to promote and create quality play (see video)—no foul was called after this blatant intentional foul.
The parking fee is $20.00 every time you park which is outrageous when you have a three day tournament with multiple games per day. On top of the parking fee, spectators are required to pay an additional $20.00 a day to watch their athlete(s) play—how can families afford this! If my wife, daughter, and I attended my son’s three day tournament we would be charged a whopping $240.00 just to watch him, and that doesn’t include the tournament fee. In addition to parking, entrance, and tournament fees, players are required to create a player Passport which costs $60.00.
The following quote is from the Passport website: “The Passport is designed to transform the youth sports experience by archiving the player journey including verifying age and grade, tracking event participation, delivering real time stats, box scores and standings, showcasing achievements and storing pictures and videos.”
Unfortunately, our experience with the Passport was the same as the rest of the players on our team. The stats were very inaccurate and totally unreliable and only one of the promised services (age verification) was fulfilled. The Passport makes promises that are not kept.
Also, if you play for an out-of-state team keep in mind that the local and in-state teams will be heavily favored by the referees—in the first half of our first game our team had 10 fouls and the local team had three, give me a break.
In summary, I was impressed with staff and facility, but you do not get what you (over) pay for and the referees are the worst I’ve seen, and...
Read moreThe facility is top-of-the-line I will give them that. It’s very clean it’s very up-to-date. But I will say I felt very harassed by the staff. I walked in with my chair as I do to all tournaments and my son was actually holding the chair and some gentleman that was on the phone did a complete 360 to be very rude and tell my son to go put the chair back in the car. I got very offensive because no adult she speak to a child like that. Not even five minutes later someone else came up to me and told me to go put my chair in the car. I didn’t appreciate it because I was just told five minutes ago the chair was not out it was still in the bag and so I just felt very much harassed. It’s bad enough that you have to pay $15 to park your car another $15 to watch your own child play but now to get harassed by a chair that wasn’t even out on the floor is...
