Gordy's Hardware — Local services in LaGrange

I really wanted to leave 3 stars, but overall a 4 star rating is OK. First off let me say the new Gordys near the mall is 5 stars. From the experience and helpfulness in finding what I need to the price and friendliness of the cashier this location deserves 5 stars. Each and every time. Now, the old Vernon street location is almost exact opposite. Maybe not if you are a regular daily customer, idk. But the last three times I visited this year leaves a lot to be asked for. Their prices are higher than other location, they don't help finding what you need (on your own), and the cashier (same one each time), well he seems to be unknowledgable on anything you ask. I mentioned I got the same items at the other location for $3 cheaper and he insists im wrong. All I got was an outdoor faucet and pvc connector each time. I wanted a faucet on each side of house. Well, though I live nearer the Vernon road store and prefer this one now I will go to other further away or Home Depot. We love Gordy's Hardware! They have locations in Lee's Crossing area and South Davis Rd. This business has been in LaGrange since I can remember. They are locally owned and operated. I prefer to shop a good locally owned store above a mass chain any day of the week. When you walk into Gordy's they are friendly, laid back, and all around genuinely helpful. You just tell them what you are looking for and they will have it ready and waiting for you before you can even get lost browsing the aisles. I am no hardware expert by any means, but even my husband feels comfortable sending me up to Gordy's to get things, knowing and trusting the way they do business. I like that they aren't pushy and always trying to "upsale". Chain stores make me feel like I'm the prey. The salesmen can sniff out an easy "upsale". New to the area and looking for a very specialized small bolt and nut. Local bulk supplier didn't have and they asked if i tried there. Looked them up in Google maps and easy to find. The gentleman jokingly told me i was probably out of luck. Customers dumped the small boxes of nuts in the drawer and he went through the whole drawer to find what I needed. Went the extra mile and spent 30 min to take care of me for $8 sale! They knew everyone that walked in and they interacted with everyone making them feel welcome!
