Checker wouldn't help me finish bagging my items after I had offered to help her while she was ringing up the items after I paid. She actually asked me to move the cart with my two kids so the person behind me could access the card machine, bagged her stuff and helped the person after that and then watched me finish up. I had brought my own bags, I thought maybe it was a weird store policy as I had not refused her service at any point, I put my bags in the car and came back and talked to the manager. I asked him to explain what had happened, if I had accidentally offended her in some way, if I owed her an apology or she owed me one, but I wanted to understand the stores policy on service and to prevent this from happening again to someone else. He talked to her, twice. I never got an explanation, but he handed me ten dollar gift card and I felt strongly that it was time for me to go away at that point, nobody wanted me there at that point, including me. It's my closest grocery store and its tough that I won't be going back.
Update- January 2020. I went back to give them a second chance at my husband's urging. First experience went well. Second experience the checker chatted with a self service customer while I waited for a kiosk to open, when my husband approached from getting a forgotten item the checker offered to help him in the adjacent aisle completing ignoring me. He said yes, we'd like that, and grabbed my cart. She talked to him and never acknowledged me during checkout as well. I don't get it, how does this happen? Read moreThe Food Lion here in Scaggsville has had a complete makeover. It's more organized and much easier to navigate. They no longer have the small meat and fresh fish counter but a much larger, well stocked set of prepackaged meat and fish counters. The store is brighter, more airy and open. Nice job, Food Lion! By the way, they still have some of the nicest folks working there so enjoy a "new" shopping experience. Update 08-17-2023 They have done a great job of keeping the "new store" fresh and clean. With egg prices going up and up, quality customer service is the very least that is expected and if that is too hard to do or too much to ask for, bring back the self check lanes. Harris Teeter is 2 minutes away to not have to put up with this foolishness. Supervisors need to supervise. At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if this Food Lion shuts down in the next 2-3 months.
