I've been going to this place for years. Years. But I don't think I'll be returning after how I was humiliated yesterday.
When my ID expired on my birthday last year, they still let me come in and use it because they said they know me and recognized me and it wasn't a big deal. I work during the day and don't get off in time to go to the DMV before it closes. I've been using the same ID since I was issued it, it's the same one they've been accepting this whole time.
Yesterday, I go in and get my usual products. The same woman that checked me out a few weeks ago checks me out again, only this time, she pauses when I give her my ID, which is the same exact ID she accepted just a few weeks ago. She hesitates, gets in her little drawer, pulls out a little blacklight flashlight, and waves it across my ID. The few people in the store are watching this happen. She has my ID in her hand with that flashlight for a full minute before she tells me she can't accept it.
When I tell her that I know it's expired, she tells me that's not the issue. She tells me that it's missing "dashes" between my birthday, dashes that have never been there and I've never heard of in my life since being issued an ID at 18 years old. I explain to her that I was in here just a few a short weeks ago and that she was the very person that checked me out and that she accepted my ID then. I tell her this and she looks at me like I'm stupid and insane.
If there was some sort of policy change in between the few weeks I was there when literally the same exact woman rang me up and accepted my exact same ID, that should've been explained to me. Nothing was. Just a, "Sorry, do you want to talk to a different manager?"
I had just left one of the longest, busiest shifts of my entire life. This was at the end of a very bad day and all I wanted was to drink it away, same as every other person to walk into that store. But instead, I got accused of having a fake ID at almost 30 years old when they've been accepting that very same ID for nearly a year.
It was absolutely embarrassing and confusing and I left humiliated and in literal tears because after the day I had just had, it was the last straw.
I've been going to this liquor store since I turned 21. They know me there and everyone pretend they didn't in that moment. Nobody explained anything to me about why they couldn't take my ID suddenly, which I thought was incredibly unprofessional.
I don't think I'll be returning to this liquor store after this experience that shouldn't...
Read moreIf you live near 19th and Mass Street, this is a great choice to be your neighborhood source for beer, wine, and spirits. The prices are comparable to most other liquor stores in Lawrence, KS. The selection is better than average.
The staff is friendly. If you walk in and stand around looking like you don't know anything, it won't be long before an employee will walk up and ask if you need help. The beer guys give good recommendations. I can't speak to a lot else, because I mostly drink beer.
Beer drinkers have to walk to the very back of the store to get where they want to go. Once they arrive, the selection is one of the better beer selections in Lawrence. There is a cave for all of your domestics and light beers. The back corner (northwest corner, I believe) is where you can find the bombers and other higher-end beers.
You really can't go wrong with On The Rocks. I've had a number of friends who have worked here over the years and none of them have had anything bad to say about the way the place is run, which is always something I look for when supporting a...
Read moreIf you’re a disabled veteran, do not go to this store! Not once, but twice, my disabled veteran husband was asked to move his truck because he was parked in a handicap parking spot. Even after he pointed out his correctly labeled license plate, and how it states “disabled veteran,” he was asked by a second store employee to move his truck. For the future, just because someone does not visibly show that he or she is disabled does not mean they are not deserving of said plate, which is not easily accessible mind you, does not give you the right to question the government. This establishment would rather embarrass a regular customer on a slow Sunday night and question them on how deserving they are of this parking spot, again, twice! 4 tours overseas made this man very deserving. Happy Veterans Day to you my hero! Good luck with your future liquor...
