Social Security Administration — Local services in Lewistown

We've been trying to update my son's last name on his social security card. We've brought all required documents listed online. First time they said he needed an insurance card, brought it in with everything else and was then told sorry, this won't work. It needs his birthday on it. I've never had an insurance card show that but okay. Said we just needed a paper from his Dr office with his name and bday on it. Cool, we'll have to go get that. We bring that along with everything else, my son is present physically at all except the third trip. Now we are told the paper from the doctor's office needs stamped by them. Three times we've gone in and were not treated kindly. I'm not sure why we can't receive clear, consistent and accurate information. So far having the child himself, court documents proving the change, updated birth certificate, insurance card, and doctor's printout are notenough. I'm currently waiting on a call back from the main number (90 minute wait time) where I am hoping to finally get some sort of clear answer. We will see. If you want to see how messed up the system and the government is go and try to get help at the social security office at Lewistown Pennsylvania, they will Deny you any help without you even explaining they do not provide any information having the computer in front of them being government employees working for the social security administration of United States of America getting paid a good salary for doing nothing, they don't want to help. The office could be completely empty and they will take about 15 to 20 to call you and when they call you they treat you like you are bothering them like they are the ones who pay your social security idiocracy...

Because of covid they don't allow to drop off documents... Sent in my documents 2 times to get a name change. They sent it back saying I will get a new card within 3 weeks.. 6 weeks go by I call them and they say nothing was in the system and I have to resend all my documents again. Unacceptable.
