TLDR: Staff is amazing, store is adorable, service is exceptional. Stop putting off your computer repairs and just use this place. You won't regret it.
I must admit. I put off finding a computer repair place for SIX MONTHS because I had some awful anxiety over handing my laptop over to a stranger. I'm an author with a very, VERY busy publishing schedule. Which means I can't hand it to someone to repair who will dilly dally or possibly mess this thing up.
PC Answers was the only local place that had decent reviews⦠mind you, on google, they have AMAZING reviews. I've never seen a place with so many 5 star reviews. Okay, I might be able to hand my entire life and career over to a stranger with those credentials. Except it still took me 2 weeks to work up the courage. Anxiety:1 Me:0
Imagine standing outside a small strip mall store where the parking lot looks like it's been through the apocalypse. I have to be honest, I almost kept driving and resigned myself to finding another place. Except I decided this wasn't quite as bad as the trek to Mordor⦠So I parked and went inside, ready to bolt back to my car.
I'm so glad I went in! You should go too! Inside is a geeky whirlwind of memorabilia. Michael was patiently helping a self proclaimed boomer who was the sweetest woman. He was a saint! Not sure Spock could be this patient.
Someone else immediately came out and greeted me. Michael remembered my email from two weeks ago and told the person (sorry I don't remember your name, but you were great too) exactly how to diagnose and repair my computer⦠all while helping the happy boomer.
I wasn't quite sold on the place yet. Anyone can put up a few Marvel funko dolls - WAKANDA FOREVER!!! - and put a small R2D2 replica on display. Then I saw the piece de resistance⦠a mousetrap with a mouse in it. Don't worry, they don't have a deceased rodent on their floor.
At the exact moment I saw the mousetrap, I made a strangled half-shock, half-laugh noise that almost made me fall out of my chair. Yeah, they're that cool.
Que Michael patiently explaining keyboard capitalization to the wonderful lady he was helping to put her password in. At no point did he seem frustrated nor did he act like he didn't have time for her. He prioritized her while greeting more people who came in. Someone fast track him through the Jedi Academy⦠Nevermind, the Sith took that over. Just give him a lightsaber because he's ready to go.
Shout out to the amazing woman working there who helped the family with a seemingly autistic daughter who came in. She perfectly managed both the adults' individual concerns on separate issues while patiently answering the daughter. Sorry, I don't remember your name either. I was rather distracted with worry because of upcoming deadlines and a randomly crashing laptop.
ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT - once I was fixed up and on my way, my computer made it 2 hours before it crashed⦠right as they closed. I called Michael, and he had me zip on over and he looked at it. First bit of advice, maybe don't self diagnose computer problems. Heh, I was wrong.
That's okay, I went to the right place. Michael diagnosed and fixed it on the spot. I've since put my laptop through rigorous use just to test it⦠Works better than it has in a LONG time. Side note - if your computer is running slow or heating up⦠definitely get a tune up. I haven't heard my turbo-prop of a fan kick on since I left. Computer Expert:1 Me: Still 0
I'm so happy I went. Poor Michael, he's going to end up as inspiration in one...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo after having a desktop that wouldn't post and exhausting other measures (RMA'ing PSU, different outlets, new Mobo/CPU) I took it here. I was charged a diagnostic fee (like $40, it wasn't much) and was told that if they had to repair then it'd go towards the repair price. About a week later they texted me that they got it to post but unfortunately couldn't find the exact issue.
Normally I'd post less than 5 stars, but they went above & beyond after that. When I went in to pick it up, they invited to the back to show me everything they've done, logs for the PC not booting, some updates for windows 10 that were stuck in the installing/updating phase, and some other software they used to check the health of the system.
They even offered some additional ideas as to why it wouldn't originally post (windows updates soft locking the system being the most likely cause) or a bad outlet causing not enough power to draw and the PSU to shutoff and offered ideas at home I could do and how to do it (testing outlets, etc).
While the ultimate cause wasn't discovered, they made me feel extremely welcome and listened to all of my concerns and explained their thought process/workflow super thoroughly. Plus they geeked out about my cosplay and tattoos! Anyplace that can identify the Tauri' symbol for Earth is a place I feel welcomed :). I definitely recommend these guys if you run into any computer issues or anything like that. I know they've definitely kept a permanent spot on my phone as the computer repair guys. Plus they sent me a handwritten card a few weeks later thanking me for coming in and just generally hoping everything was well. Like what! That level of customer service is so unheard of nowadays and so unbelievably welcome. I've been going through a really rough period lately and seeing that card, even if it was from a business, meant a whole lot to me since it actually shows they care about...

I started by asking for a quote on Yelp and the Owner, Michael contacted me pretty much immediately with the diagnostics fee and my options about whether to drop it off in store or have them come to my home. He was so nice in the email!
I decided to bring it in late on Monday and one of the Technician, Donyo Turner was there. I explained to him what was wrong and he told me right then and there he thought it might be the hard drive. He took mine out and tested it and sure enough my hard drive was failing. He then took the time to go over my options with me (everything that we could do to get it fixed but still save a little money) and we decided on the game plan. The whole exchange took 15 minutes tops which is so crazy because I have been to other places that took a whole day to diagnose the problem.
Donyo was so great, he explained things without talking down to me (as other places have that start with "G" and end in "eek Squad") and made me feel very confident when I dropped off my computer.
I picked up my computer around 12 the next day after getting a text from Donyo that everything was finished. (Isn't that cool? I absolutely loathe making phone calls so it was nice that I got the option of texting).
When I picked it up Donyo went over everything that they did, handed me my old drive just in case because their system only keeps your data for 30 days in the event that they have to do more work (and frankly that kind of honesty is super nice to encounter). Mary was also super sweet at the front when I had to pay and get my receipts. She introduced herself to my sister and I and was so friendly!
They didn't even have my computer for a whole day and it was up and running again. I would absolutely bring my...
