I’m updating this review from earlier and changing to 4 stars because I got a call from Stephanie who was very polite and helpful in sorting this out. This was a broker information issue but she went above and beyond by taking the extra time and sorting through the info I was given to get me squared away. A big thank you and much appreciation to her! Additionally, they have 2 very clean bathroom’s available for drivers and a vending machine.
Bill on the other hand showed his a** by waving and giving me a salute on his way out the gate. Bill can go kick rocks!
Original post; I was scheduled to pick up a load between 03-1100 on 09/14 and had a very rude encounter with an arrogant guy who said his name is Bill and is allegedly in charge of shipping. Listen Bill, we’re all just out here trying to do a job and mistakes do happen. Part of mine is communicating back to my company that the appt is wrong, what the change is and who I spoke with. There’s no reason to be rude and argumentative about simple questions such as who you are and when I should be here to pick up. Bill was pretty adamant that Maui Fresh doesn’t do appointments which is why I question whether he is who he says he is. In all my 25 years of transportation I’ve never had a company not give me at least a window.
You can call 213-788-7800 to check in per the note on the door. My company said to park on the street and walk up to check in but there are no parking signs everywhere, so, park at your own risk. I did see a big truck along with a bunch of worldwide produce, whom Maui Fresh shares the building with, box trucks parked there. The signs say no overnight but there were a bunch of trucks making deliveries that had parked overnight on the docks and, in speaking with other drivers, seems like a pretty commonplace thing. Pretty much everyone I spoke to, aside from Bill and another driver, spoke Spanish so getting help...
Read moreInsist on a detention fee at this place. You're going to need it. They open at 1AM but don't get around to actually unloading trucks until around 3am. You'll probably spend up to 2-3 hours before you are unloaded and another 1-2 hours for product to be inspected and to sign paperwork. But it could be longer! If your dispatcher tells you to go there first with an LTL drop because they open at 1AM do not listen to them. Go with the quick drops first even if they are later. You are going to be stuck at this place for a while. DETENTION FEES. DETENTION FEES. Insist on them, it's the only way businesses like this are going to learn. Not a lot of drivers want to do the markets like us...
