I've been taking my dog to OH HELLO DOG for almost a year (since they've been open) and can't get enough of them. Some may ask why it took so long for me to leave a review- you know when you love something so much and you want to do them a justice and you just want to make sure you say all the things you want to say and not miss a thing so you wait and wait and wait so that you have a good chunk of time to be very detailed in how much you love that thing? Well, that's what happened to me.
Anyway, I used to take my dog to another daycare which he did not like. I could tell because every time we walked in the direction of that daycare, he'd pull and not want to go inside. It was the only option at the time and I didn't want to leave him home alone while I went to work and travel. But the feeling of sadness never left me. Then OHD opened up and I decided to see if it was the daycare or if it was just my dog not wanting to be around other dogs. It was the daycare.
Right away, when you walk into OHD, it's bright, fun, clean and you don't smell any ammonia (like other daycares). There is free parking (I know, in DTLA!) and the staff immediately feel like longtime friends. My dog LOVES OHD. When I say, "Oh Hello Dog?" at home, he heads to his lunch bag (yes, I'm that dog mom) since that's what he takes to daycare. When we turn into the parking lot, he stands up in the backseat ready to jump out. He RUNS to the door and inside RUNS to the entrance to the dog area. Not gonna lie, the first couple of times made me sad cause he was ok without me. I'll get over it.
They offer daycare, boarding, puzzles, baths, treats, meals, dancing, bedtime stories, retro-Mariah dance parties... everything your dog could want.
The @OhHelloDog Instagram Story is the highlight of my day. Even some of my co-workers started to monitor their stories because even if you don't have a dog staying there, it's damn good content! Unless you don't like dogs. Then there are some other issues you have there.
Leaving your dog at Oh Hello Dog is like leaving your baby with your mom. You're not going to check a nanny cam a billion times a day. You're just going to trust that they know what they are doing and providing the most positive, stimulating, and loving...
Read moreI took my shy dog to OHD in 2022 bc they were known to be good with timid dogs. However, he didn't pass the initial test because "he didn't sit," which I found perplexing. He does know the command, but it's understandable he wouldn’t obey a stranger in a new place. It felt like they didn’t give him time to warm up, instead labeling him as needing extra training. They suggested a different program for him that didn’t start until later in the year, and I was advised to work on his training in the meantime.
I chose another daycare instead, explaining his initial nervousness before our first meeting. They reassured me it was normal, and he's done great there since. The OHD facility seemed nice, and I believe they genuinely care about the dogs, but they may not be ideal for those needing extra time to adjust. I understand wanting the right fit to ensure safety, but in my case, their approach felt a bit too stringent.
Feels a bit weird to review them since he never attended, but wanted to post this in case it’s helpful to others whose dogs have a similar temperament. 4 stars bc they seemed nice and I don’t want to mess with...
Read moreCame for the witty instagram videos, stayed for the excellent dog care. Seriously, this is not your typical boarding facility, and the difference is in the details. First, the facilities are clean, has plenty of natural light, and is well ventilated, not dark and thrown together like other facilities I've seen. Granted it's a new place, but you can tell they cared about the design, even in the dog areas. It's a happy and healthy space. Second, the service and communication was top notch. As a dog parent, I have a checklist of concerns and quirks about my dog e.g. bloat, special diet needs, safety concerns. Not only did Janet and Lisa address these concerns and talked me through them, they seemed to be a few steps ahead and already had safety protocols in place. Lastly, it's all about the dogs. What makes this place special is the creativity. Not only will I know my dog is safe, but also engaged physically and mentally through various cute and funny activities that bring out my dog's personality (as documented in their instagram videos). It's a great culture and community they...
