A delicious seafood dinner located in the Row DTLA. I have been to the Row many times for Smorgasbord and other restaurants in the vicinity but tonight was my first time at Rappahannock. Parking is extremely easy, plentiful, and the first two hours are free. They have a lot of great seafood options on the menu so it took me a few minutes to choose what I wanted to eat. Our server was also very polite and attentive, and all the food items came out very quickly.
We started the meal with the Hamachi Crudo and it was great. It was heavy on the vinegar sauce, but I happen to be a big fan of vinegar. We followed it up with a dozen Oysters and chose six of each type that they offered. The horseradish with it was very spicy, which I truly loved, and I could’ve easily ordered a dozen more. Probably my favorite part of the dinner. Next came the Watermelon & Cucumber Salad, which was a real hit. It was large in portion and I especially loved the strawberries and feta mixed in. Next we shared the Barcat Oyster Chowder which was filled with clams and delicious potatoes. For the entrée, we shared the Seafood Gumbo, which was loaded with delicious seafood in a rich broth and was the perfect amount of food for two people. It would be quite a lot for one person unless that’s all you ordered.
Overall a great seafood dinner with easy parking and a really casual but upscale vibe. I would recommend to any fan of seafood, or anyone looking to have a great dinner in the...
Read moreCame here today, Sunday of President's Day weekend. Drove about 30 minutes out of my way to eat here. It was busy but there were many seats open at the restaurant. Waited in line for at least 10 minutes, then was ignored by the hostess. Basically, someone skipped the line and the hostess seated them before us. When the hostess came back to the line she said they were at capacity and asked is to wait 10 minutes. I told her she skipped us. She apologized. We left.
I spent a few hours processing why I was upset. I wanted initially to blame the hostess, but I realized she was probably as decent as one could expect in that circumstance. Not warm, but not kowtowing. What's she going to do at that point, right? Mistake is done; life goes on. I just don't understand why they would create a line that they don't refer to when dealing with customers. Was I supposed to skip the line?
Ultimately, I blame management. Poor training or poor implementation, either way I don't need to spend my money at an establishment that doesn't respect me or my time. I certainly don't need to take a date to a place where she will be treated unfairly.
It's a shame, I've actually been here before and I really like the oysters (they are pretty good), general vibe, and cocktails. What was once my favorite oyster bar in LA is now a place in going to avoid. I'd just rather not risk having my appetite ruined again. Maybe it's worth the gamble for the...
Read moreAt first, I want to say their burgers and raw oysters are very nice. However, unfortunately, this restaurant's operation is so bad. It's because it might be a new restaurant, but I don't know. We (three adults) went there at 1:30 PM on Tuesday. Usually, it is not a busy time, and this restaurant has several groups of customers. It was not an occupied situation. We ordered three lunch menus (Two burgers and one fried chicken sandwiched) and waited 40 minutes. Suddenly, a staff member brought us a raw oyster cocktail plate (it had almost ten oysters), and said, "It's on the house." We didn't order that plate. He didn't say anything about that plate, but maybe they forgot our menu, so they brought the oyster plate. In addition, almost 30 min later, our orders arrived, but it was three burgers (We ordered two burgers and one fried chicken sandwich). They made a mistake. You know, we waited almost 70 min to burgers!! Therefore, we told them it was a mistake, but we ate the wrong dish because we were too hungry. As I mentioned the first line, their oysters and burgers were delicious. Also, they discounted 10% for our bill even we didn't say complaint there. However, the staff members were careless and their operation in the restaurant was terrible. I hope they will...
