They say that Virginia is for lovers, and it holds true for chocolate lovers! When you venture to Sperryville, make sure to visit Wholehearted Chocolate, a charming artisanal chocolate shop owned and operated by chocolatier Keenan Sherwood.
The chocolate is a work of art, made in small batches with premium ingredients. The variety of dark chocolate truffles are delicious; they demonstrate Keenan’s creativity and understanding of flavor layering. I bought two truffle samplers on a whim; some of the most unique and delicious truffles include the Cardamom, Raspberry, Orange, Peanut Butter, Spiced Almond, and Black Sesame! (They are all yummy and all truffles were devoured in one night!)
Beyond the chocolate, Keenan Sherwood is warm and welcoming. He is genuinely excited to share his passion for making quality chocolate, teach you why chocolate is great for wellness, share his favorite flavors, and help you find yours! Whether you're picking up dark chocolate bars or variety packs for a gift or indulging in a personal treat, Wholehearted Chocolate is a place you’ll want to return to again and again.
I highly recommended this shop for anyone who appreciates quality, craftsmanship, and a touch of sweetness...

The owner/operator is so personable and authentically charming, able to imbue you with a newfound appreciation of the culture of chocolate just as easily as he seems able to create tastebud-blowing chocolates. Thought is given to catering for all different dietary needs with goats milk and coconut milk based chocolate available (and delicious). It would feel like a tragedy to go back to eating mass-produced Lindt chocolate (and the like) after this. We also really loved hearing the origin story of the business. Conversation and chocolate filled with equal amounts of overflowing heart....

The price is admittedly steep but it's a one man operation (charming chocolatier), not a big shop, he uses good ingredients and he's had to buy the equipment, so he has to make a living too. He has free samples. One suggestion would be to have nicer looking packaging, because the carton box looks quite basic for the price. I think it's great to have that little shop in the entertainment district and it'd be cool if other vendors (like the distillery) offered the local...
