Im rating this store based on Pokémon TCG as that’s what I go there for (and not on their employees as they are all nice and helpful, although some seem more inexperienced). Overall, I do not recommend shopping here. I’ve giving them 1 star for their pre release Pokémon events as they’re one of the only places that host them (yay!) and another start for their selection of single cards (although I recommend buying singles at card shows). I cannot give them anymore stars because they are the MOST expensive local game store when it comes to their Pokémon TCG product that I’ve been to—it feels like offensive and predatory to their customer base. $244 for for prismatic UPC $144 above market price), $260 destined rivals booster boxes ($100 above), $120 DR ETBs ($70 over, do more than double market), and I think $60-$70 booster bundles (which are also more then double market). I’m comparing then to 4 other local game stores I frequent or check in with, and they’ve been the most expensive (the second highest still overpriced and would not recommend either but this is about Misty); so I encourage customers to shop elsewhere if they are looking for Pokémon trading card game product (Pegasus Games has been the most consistently well priced store in the Madison area, so I wanted to shout them out...
Read moreSome people are salting the lack of options, but I don't actually feel such a thing. There's plenty of games and events here, and if you don't see what you want, it's easy enough to order it and pick it up at no extra charge (like I did with the Munchkin 8 expansion).
Without Misty Mountain, I would be in a very tight circle, but WITH Misty, I have the ability to join up and participate in various events with other friendly players, such as the Friday Night Magic draft, and, on Thursdays, the Dungeons and Dragons Adventurers League.
Plus, there's lots of games to choose from, especially popular series like Munchkin and Fluxx, and CCGs like MTG, Pokemon TCG, and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Just know that if Misty carries a game, they do their best to carry as many of its variants and expansions as possible.
The one thing I'd like to see is a tangible rewards program, possibly similar to I'm Board's VP (Victory Points) program. I haven't played a giant amount of events yet, but an incentive program would motivate me even more than I already am to play in events and purchase additional games.
Overall, Misty Mountain Games makes a statement despite all the mixed reviews, and I owe the friendly staff and decent selection a few (dozen) more visits. But don't take my word for it. After all, I'm just...
Read moreWorst prices in the 608, witch is fine you don't have to shop here and they don't tell you you have to. I think the wool gets pulled over a lot of costumers eyes, we are told to support our local business but what about when they don't support us. They are buying Pokemon product at Retail pricing let's say example: $30 a etb they SHOULD sell for the MSRP of at the high end $55 ( that's what Pokemon would like them to sell for. They still make $25.00 off that transaction, they can keep the lights on and the employees paid well at that price. They see the market price is let's say $200 for the new ETBS and will take advantage of patrons by selling at that price. That's a uanessacry hike that's $145 over MSRP, they don't need to do this, they arnt paying anymore for the product then they ussaly do. I'll say the big box stores and the the other mom and pop stores in town both sell at $55 and $69 respectively. If you're new to the hobby they WILL take advantage of you, every time. If you're seasoned and play table top games I here it's...
