My little Abby hurt her lower back missing a stair approximately 3 months ago. She seemed to be getting better after a visit to the emergency vet. Then her back legs dropped . I was advised to seek out a veterinarian specialist and I chose Blue Pearl in Maitland. Dr. Knight and the staff are completely amazing. Compassionate and knowledgeable. They did an MRI on Abby and it turns out she did not need a back surgery. Abby had a spinal tap, and it turns out she has meningitis. After the initial shock, Dr. Knight let me know a plan of action to try and get Abby better. She is getting treatments there now and she’s in the best possible hands. I see some reviews talking about how expensive not only this veterinarian clinic is, but others as well. MRI machines are more than $1 million, operating the facility itself, several million dollars and to employ staff, do testing, employees veterinarians and have the latest and cutting edge technologies. I always recommend to people to find and seek out the best pet insurance for their pets. I highly recommend Blue Pearl and will continue Abby’s course of treatment and if my other French Bulldog Winston finds himself in a health crisis, Blue Pearl will be my choice.
🛑🛑🛑 UPDATE-My Abby was MISDIAGNOSED with Meningitis by Dr Knight at Blue Pearl in Maitland Florida. After a few recommended, cytisine treatments, chemotherapy treatments, Abby started to go downhill. Furthermore, somehow, in the process of all of this, a bacteria got into the lumbar puncture site, a procedure BluePearl performed. It took five surgeries at blue pearl, of course, to close these wounds. Abby continued to go downhill and could no longer take the cytisine treatments. We were in and out of hospitals in the middle of the night. Having spent almost $40,000 between blue Pearl Hospital in Maitland, Florida and emergency rooms in the middle of the night, I sent her lab work done at the request of blue pearl off too many veterinarian neurologists. One in New York, one in Port, Orange, Florida, three veterinary and medical colleges. The consensus was the same. Abby was missed diagnosed and never needed any of the treatments BluePearl performed. when I notified Blue, Pearl, as status quo for a huge corporation, who is also owned by the mars candy bar corporation, they said they would assess the situation. Assess? Thankfully, my dog does not have the deadly disease, the blue pearl and Dr. night diagnosed her with. For this I am grateful. What I am not grateful for is the five months of no sleep. The five months of constant research, trying to find anything in the world that would help cure abbey of a deadly critical disease for which Abby never had. My best hope is that her lab results were miss read by someone who is not competent to read them. My worst fear is the possibility that blue pearl does this to get as much money as they can from desperate pet parents. I hope the latter is not true. BEWARE of Dr Knight AND Blue Pearl. I will be adding the name of the managing veterinarian Husso cavalierly stated that I should be happy that Abby does not have meningitis. Zero responsibility. Look up the lawsuit in NYC against blue pearl by a power couple that appeared on page 6 of the New York times. $5 million lawsuit for a misdiagnosis from Blue Pearl of their dog. Do your research, many lawsuits against Blue Pearl and one more coming soon. Expect them to respond the way they always do. A canned response that they are not allowed to discuss a particular pets situation. Never having to defend themselves publicly. There is no Hyppa law for pets. They...
Read moreI am not even sure where to start. Five Stars cannot totally capture what the staff did for me and my family. AVS is just that...(An) Associated Veterinary Specialists so when we brought my 2 1/2 year old Shiba, Keme, here, it was because we were referred to them for the excellence in medicine above and beyond what our doctor could do for us anymore. We knew when we transported her there on a Monday, June 10th 2019, this was our last chance to get her on the correct path to recovery. Keme had recently been diagnosed with ITP/IMHA due to a reaction to stacked vaccines. Upon that diagnosis, she was horribly mis-treated (mis-diagnosed) with medicines that caused plueral effusion with no improvement to the disease. It was from a second opinion (and a new Doctor) that referred us to AVS after they did everything they could to just stabilize her. From the moment we arrived at 7:00 am, they took Keme straight back and got her comfortable and started working on her. They being Doctor Stafford and Doctor Harris. These two amazing doctors were her primary care team the whole time. When Doctor Stafford wasn’t there it was Doctor Harris. They came to love Keme quickly so I knew they meant what they say, which got more difficult for them as the week went by. I saw this team every day. Please note that they didn’t come right at us with the bill. When they did, it was a 75% deposit, which they monitored for us, always communicating what they were doing and where we were with her care/treatment and with our account. Keme’s team called me twice a day. I needed those calls very much. They let me visit for several hours a day, every day (except Sunday) for over a week, with no hassles or interruptions. On Keme’s last day, they did everything they could to give me every minute with her that I needed. They didn’t give us false hope. They didn’t give me false hope. Keme’s team gave it everything they could. Truth is, I wish I had found this team sooner!!! They and Keme could have had a better chance to beat the disease. When I looked back at AVS website to see who Keme’s team was, I had not even realized that Doctor Stafford was IMHA oriented. To know now, even after everything that happened, I know Keme was in the best care she could be. Doctor Stafford...That Monday, when you looked me in the eyes and asked me on Keme’s behalf to make that difficult decision, I know it was hard for you. Thank you so much for reaching into my heart and helping me be #Shibastrong. I will never forget what you both did for her. I will be back in person to say Thank You appropriately to you both. It has just been over whelming for us. Thank you so much for that personalized card you both sent. It meant so much to us. Thank You AVS...Even on that Friday we picked up Keme’s cremains, you walked my husband outside, in privacy, and continued to respect Keme’s memory. We can never thank you enough. We highly recommend AVS...We will come back if we ever need you again. With our highest respect and regards. Soraya Robideaux and Mark Burnham...
Read morePlease be away from Dr. Kara C. Knight and BluePearl Pet Hospital in Orlando.
Our experience with them was one of the most distressing and emotionally traumatic events our family has ever faced. While on vacation in Orlando, our puppy was injured, and we brought her to BluePearl for emergency care. After a long wait, Dr. Knight examined her and bluntly presented two options: an extremely high-risk surgery with a low chance of survival, or 12 weeks in a cast with no guarantee of recovery. She told us our puppy might live, but would always be fragile and at risk of dying. Her delivery was cold, clinical, and completely lacking in compassion.
We were devastated. I cried non-stop for days, and my husband and I were emotionally broken from the fear and uncertainty. We chose the cast option and decided to return home to California to seek a second opinion from a more experienced specialist.
Our puppy stayed at BluePearl for one night, and during that time, she developed a severe cold—nasal congestion, runny nose, and difficulty breathing. This was especially dangerous because she was already wearing a cast. We called the hospital repeatedly the next day asking for help or medication, but we were only told, “You should take her to a doctor in L.A.” No one took responsibility or showed any urgency, even though her condition worsened under their care.
Once home in California, we saw two different veterinary specialists. Both confirmed that our puppy’s condition was not as severe as Dr. Knight described, and that she would likely recover well within 6–8 weeks in a cast. The emotional damage caused by the extreme and terrifying diagnosis we were given by Devil Kara C. Knight cannot be overstated. It caused us enormous distress for no valid reason.
Thankfully, our puppy is doing much better now, but she is still suffering from respiratory symptoms she developed during her stay at BluePearl. We feel that her cold was a direct result of the hospital’s neglect and poor care.
This entire ordeal has left us deeply disappointed and heartbroken. Dr. Kara Knight showed a complete lack of empathy and bedside manner during one of the most vulnerable moments for our family. Based on our experience, I would not trust her—or this hospital—with the care of any beloved pet.
Please be cautious before taking your animal to BluePearl in Orlando. I hope no one else has to go through...
