I went to Manchester, NH, solely to visit St. George Orthodox Cathedral, and the five-hour drive was absolutely worth it. Upon my arrival, I was strucked by how this building distinguished itself from its surroundings.
I've never seen anything quite like it. It is magnificent, unique... it is probably one of New Hampshire's best kept secret.
Churches and cathedrals are not just places of worship but also magnificent works of art. St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester is a great example. Built in the 1960s, it has this distinct feel of the era, characterized by a unique, almost funky vibe... the interior is breathtaking, the dome, the iconostasis, the glass work of the dome... everything in this place is special and truly exceptional.
However, beneath this contemporary surface, one can discern clear influences of Cycladic architecture, adding depth and historical resonance to its design. It clashes a little with its surroundings but also fits perfectly, it is hard to explain, you have to see it for yourself to understand.
It is so unique, it deserves recognition as a must-visit destination in the Manchester area.

Read moreI am SO disappointed in the leadership of this church. Our boys (8 & 9) were part of Cub Scouts Pack 92 that met there until Covid. The pack has since dissolved since they didn’t have a place to meet, so my boys switched to a different local pack. One of my boys had done fundraising through scouts by selling Krispy Kreme donuts and he had around $600 in his account that he was saving to go to Scout camp over the summer (which didn’t happen last year due to Covid, so he planned to go this upcoming summer), but the church refuses to let him have the money (or to even pay it directly to the Scout camp for him to go to camp).
Having 2 boys, we can’t afford almost $1,000 for both of them to attend, which is why we did the fundraiser and now this church is wrongfully withholding the money that he worked hard to earn and was excited to use for camp. Not to mention that the people that bought donuts did so to support HIM for camp, NOT to go to a greedy church! They need to make this right and everyone needs to know that this church is scamming innocent children out of money and keeping them from being able to go to camp! ...
