TLDR: Small, cramped shop. Staff was not friendly or welcoming. Very cluttered on the right side of the store, making it hard to see everything. No good deals on back issues. An okay shop, but there are better options in the area.
Great Escape Comics is located in a shopping center to the left of Publix. Itâs a small, cramped shop with toys, trade paperbacks, manga, and omnibuses scattered on the floor due to a lack of shelf space. This makes it difficult to see everything and walk around comfortably. One of the older staff members was noticeably unwelcoming upon entry.
The modern back issues displayed in the center of the store are all priced about 50 cents above cover price or more, depending on the series. There are also single issues taped to the wall, but most are heavily sun-faded and in poor condition.
They have a good selection of new comic books that are released every Wednesday on the left side of the store. This is one of the only Positives I experienced in store.
While this shop may be fine for picking up new releases, if youâre looking for good deals on back issues or a well-organized browsing experience, this likely isnât the...
Read moreIf you're a comic or manga enthusiast, Great Escape Comics and Games in Marietta, GA, is an absolute must-visit! This store is a treasure trove for fans of all things geeky and collectible. Their comic inventory is truly impressive, offering a great selection of both new releases and back issues. I was thrilled to discover their "Just Acquired" bins, where I scored some fantastic Silver Age and Bronze Age comics at amazing pricesâdefinitely a highlight of my visit.
Beyond the comics, they also boast a solid Manga inventory section. But what really caught my eye was their toy stockâthey have some incredibly cool and hard-to-find collectibles that you won't easily come across elsewhere. Itâs a hidden gem for toy collectors, for sure.
Whether you're a local or visiting the Atlanta area, making the trip up I-75 to Great Escape is absolutely worth the effort. Their selection, atmosphere, and friendly staff make this a standout spot for comic lovers and collectors alike. I canât recommend it...
Read moreThe comic selection was okay. It's a small joint so it'd be difficult to carry everything. They do try and dabble in gaming though they fall a little short, but that's not their focus. If you want current Magic boosters you'll be fine. Unfortunately the service is terrible. Seriously, it's bad. Generally it's this one guy that has no answers, and acts bothered by even having to ring you up, much less come out from behind the counter or answer a question. I understand you might need the owner to answer certain questions, but if you get him to point and grunt without an eyeroll and five minute sigh when asking for blank comic, you've caught him on a good day. Maybe they cater to existing customers and could care less about new ones? They are extremely close to my house, but after a handful of visits, all the same, I will now go out of my way to avoid this uncomfortable place. I'm sure if I was there when the owner was there, it'd be a completely...
