I have had a very disappointing experience with this shelter regarding the adoption of my dog. Initially, I was given inconsistent and incorrect information about the dog’s health and vaccination status. When I picked her up, I was surprised to learn that she was on antibiotics for a UTI and sedatives for separation anxiety—despite being assured over the phone by the shelter that there were no problems with the dog. Additionally, I was frustrated to discover that a pre-scheduled spay procedure was not completed due to a medication shortage, which I was only informed of at the last minute when I arrived to pick up the dog after hours of driving.
Given the situation, the shelter should have kept the dog with them for the additional three days needed to complete the spay procedure instead of placing this burden on me without proper notice.
Most recently, I have been deeply concerned by the shelter’s handling of the adoption process. Despite asking twice at the front desk about finalizing the adoption paperwork for the dog, I was told there was nothing further I needed to do. No adoption agreement or paperwork was presented to me at the time. It was only after PetSmart insisted on seeing the adoption paper that I checked Shelterluv and discovered that an adoption agreement had been signed on my behalf without my knowledge or consent.
This unauthorized signing of the adoption agreement is not only unprofessional but also violates the terms of the foster-to-adopt agreement I initially signed, which clearly stated that I would need to finalize the adoption paperwork myself after the spay/neuter surgery.
I understand that this shelter is a non-profit organization, but that does not excuse creating frustration for adopters by providing inconsistent information or signing agreements on their behalf without consent. Transparency and proper communication are essential, especially when it involves the well-being of an animal and the legal responsibilities of adoption.
I hope the shelter takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary changes to ensure that future adopters are provided with accurate information and are properly involved in the...
Read moreTerrible experience. I placed an animal on a 24 hour hold to adopt it, and due to the SPCA being closed for snow, they sent the animal somewhere else. I tried contacting the SPCA 3 times the day that I was supposed to have let them know I wanted the animal, but there was no answer. When I talked to the manager, she said that they were there all day, and implied that it was my fault for not contacting them in time. Their Facebook page clearly stated that they were closed that day as well, so I feel as though I was outright lied too. Although the manager offered for me to adopt another animal for half the price, there was never any attempt made to right the wrong that they did by sending the animal away to an out of state rescue without contacting me. Being in a customer service field, I understand that unexpected things like snowstorms happen, but that does not excuse you from not making every effort to contact the customers when your schedule is changed. Two years ago I donated about 30 blankets to this SPCA, and now wish I hadn't because of this event. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS SPCA and you should not trust them when they say they will hold an animal for you. Don't try to hold an animal if snow is in the forecast, cause they'll just send it away and make you feel like...
Read moreWe adopted Milo just a few days ago. The entire staff was so amazing and welcoming and the adoption process was quick and simple. Milo is an Australian Shepherd / Rottweiler mix and we got him as a companion for our German Shepherd, Missy. It was love at first sight. While Missy has had to adjust to sharing her home, she is much happier and Milo is a huge help with her PTSD. Last night, someone was setting off fireworks so tonight, she became nervous again. She wouldn't eat her dinner and she would not come outside because she was scared. We sat outside with Milo with the basement door open. Milo was barking for her and coaxed her to come downstairs. He then went inside several times, urging her until she finally came out. He watched me rubbing her ears as she groaned in pleasure and he then started nuzzling the other ear and took over completely. She loved it and quickly forgot why she was worried in the first place. She went potty and they played, came inside and she finished her dinner. In 3 short days, Milo has been house broken, learned several tricks and stolen all...
