We did the sunset tour with our guide Michael. He was fantastic! Very accommodating and kind. He was a great driver and had a vast knowledge of Hawaii and the culture and history. It was a 7 hour tour which had plenty of bathroom stops and unlike the NCL excursion, this provided us with a fabulous dinner and water at the top of the summit. After seeing the crater and sunset, Michael took individual pictures with the red glow of sunset behind us. He then took us out to stargaze and take pictures. As I had no idea how to set my phone up to do this, he took mine and anyone else’s phone and set it up so we could enjoy the picture taking. This is an exceptionally crazy drive with twists, turns, and switchbacks, but throughout it all Michael continued his tour narration making sure we all got as much out of the experience as possible. He also offered to air drop photos he had taken of the NP which I thought went above and beyond any guide if ever had. On the way down he stopped and got us out of the van to enjoy a funny story about Hawaiian leprechauns living in the valley we could say hello to…as we all yelled various phrases together we were delighted and surprised to get a hello back from these little people as the valley was an echo chamber. Very cool and memorable day and evening! ...
Read moreOur family of four ( two teens ages 13 and 15) thoroughly enjoyed last night’s Sunset Tour which was guided by our driver Michael. He was perfectly on time and the mini bus was exceptionally clean. I have a tendency to feel anxious with the more adventurous activities. Michael was a phenomenal driver and there was no jerking motion with gas and break on a challenging road to and from the summit . I was glad I took a motion sickness pill for the extremely curvy long road up to the summit. The views were breathtaking and Micheal provided extensive history throughout the tour and was open to plenty of questions. Be sure to bring warm clothes as suggested. We had a lovely dinner to go and hot drinks that Micheal seemed to coordinate with ease. We were so grateful to have a safe and guided ride to the summit. This was not something we would have attempted on our own especially driving to or from in the dark! Well worth the cost of paying someone experienced . Many thanks for a most...
Read moreWe did their Tropical Rainforest Tour. Our guide, Jade, showed up late because "she couldn't wake up" with a beat up van with a rattling muffler and got a flat tire halfway down the Road to Hana. Jade mentioned multiple times that she's never done the tour before and not familiar with the route. This was evident as we learned more about her shaman and sweat house experiences more than anything along the way. We had to ask her about sites as we drove by them with no knowledge. We were 1.5 hours late to lunch arriving at 3pm (after leaving the hotel at 7) where the lunch spot was caught off guard by our late arrival. Everyone on the tour was either starving, our carsick from the drive. Maybe the other tours are good but this was...
