I highly recommend Soul Surfing Maui and Brian! Soul Surfing Maui is 5⭐️ from every aspect! We planned a semi-private lesson with Brian for our two boys ages 16 and 18. Brian took the time to get to know our boys during the lesson and gave them the one on one attention needed to give them the best experience and outcome when learning to surf. He did so well that the kids wanted a second lesson while we were still in Maui for the week and Brian graciously worked us in his schedule for later in the week. You can tell that Brian enjoys what he does and it always felt more than just a job for Brian. It’s about creating an experience that you will take for the rest of your life. I appreciated the knowledge Brian was willing to share about the water, beaches and land of Maui, the excitement that he has for surfing and teaching and just the fun that he has working with you. Communication from the time of booking (we booked 3 months prior as that’s how our family does things) to a reminder text the day before our event, to multiple texts for the second lesson on surf conditions as the waves didn’t want to cooperate with us and how he wanted to create the perfect scenario for the second go around which we appreciated. We could have just surfed, but he wanted to create the memorable experience for our boys. Customer service was spot on and second to none! He took wonderful photos from the water that he shared with us that were included in the lesson price. The quality of his lessons were consistently outstanding, we never felt rushed or pushed for time while we were on the clock. We were completely impressed with Brian’s professionalism throughout the entire process. My boys wished they could continue to grow surfing with Brian’s help but the 12 hour flight makes that difficult. During a recent vacation to Maui my kids asked if they could go surfing. Having no idea how to surf myself I decided to recruit the assistance of a professional instructor. Upon reviewing several surfing classes in Maui I came across Soul Surfing Maui and on thier website they had their mission statement: “TREAT EVERY GUEST AS A #1 VIP, NEVER BRING CROWDS TO THE BEACH AND ALWAYS DISPLAY THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF PERSONAL SERVICE.”

I liked this statement and it resonated with me enough that I decided to trust Soul Surfing Maui to take my kids out surfing.

Brian lives up to this mission statement 100%! His communication was exceptional every step of the way. We met at a beach with the perfect little waves for beginners. We had signed up for a semi-private class because we had two kids. He was there with another semi-private class of two other kids, but he had a dedicated instructor just for our kids (Torey). They did a fantastic job of giving pre-water lessons before taking them out in the water. Within an hour they were both riding waves!

When the class was over Torey had to leave, but Brian stayed. He mentioned that he did not have another lesson scheduled after the lesson was over, so I asked if he would be interested in taking the kids back out for more time on the water. He was happy to do so and I was happy to pay for his extra time. The kids ended up with 3 hours on the water and were so happy! This was literally their favorite part of the entire 2-week trip to Hawaii!

And to top it off, he sent us a bunch of photos (at no extra charge) that he took of the kids with a waterproof camera! They were great photos and a wonderful memory of this experience.

When we planned our trip to Maui, my daughter put together her bucket list of things to do. Of course the usuals for a teenager were on the checklist…go to a luau, eat some shave ice, go snorkeling with turtles, Mama’s Fish House, Road to Hana, etc.

However, I am so happy she wanted to take a surf lesson. Forget lessons at the hotels...they will take your money regardless of surf conditions. We researched private surfing lessons and Brian of Soul Surfing Maui kept showing up in our search results. And, when we spoke to him on the phone we had immediate comfort level dealing with him. When inquiring about his availability, it was more about when surf conditions were forecasted to be good. His passion for the sport is apparent and he wanted to ensure my daughter got the best experience possible.

Brian offers an authentic Hawaiian surfing experience amongst the most scenic mountainous backdrop. On our way to the meeting spot we must have passed multiple overly crowded lessons filled with students dragging their own rental boards to the beach…not cool as this eats into the designated lesson time. With Brian, he dropped us a pin and we were easily able to pull up and meet him at the beach where everything was already set up and ready to go…board, rash guard, reef shoes, etc.

Brian easily earns his 5-star rating! My daughter is athletic to begin with and has good balance as a result of being a gymnast, but for the first time coaching her, it was as if Brian has coached her before because the results were immediate. She took to his natural coaching abilities and catching her first wave…my daughter had no falls, no spills. She was hooked!

Definitely put Soul Surfing Maui on your to-do list.
