Advice to tube depot: if your product is going to arrive differently than described, you should put a note of that in the description. If you don't, you should expect that some customers ask questions about it, and when they do you should be helpful and accommodating rather than dismissive and condescending.
I ordered almost $400 in tubes. Two of the tubes I ordered, totalling $170, were not as described on the website. The brand i received was a different, generic brand and the country of origin was different than what was sold.
I emailed customer support to let them know and they told me that it was just the boxes that were different/generic, that I got the right item and I should give them a try.
Note- it wasnt just the boxes that were a different brand- the tubes themselves were printed with a different brand and country of origin. Also, if I give them a try am I going to get a refund if I dont like them?
We went back and forth about 8 times of them telling me I'm wrong and being condescending. The tubes I was sent are available for $100 for a matched pair from other sellers ($70 less than what tubedepot charged).
They offered a return label, but packing, returning and repurchasing isnt worth the time to me.
Admittedly I'm not a tube expert, but I did have the tubes checked out by my local hifi shop who told me I'd received the wrong item.
The customer service left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Normally I shop locally but Covid got me to try out this vendor....
Read moreI do not own a tube tester. Over the years, I'm 65, I have collected a box of tubes; condition unknown. I was given a new tube amplifier for Christmas and through trickle down my wife inherited my old media amp, a K2003. The three tubes were all different. The output tubes were Russian and NEC, the driver tube was unmarked. I wanted to do the right thing and update her tubes. I went on the internet for phone numbers and called two places, one did not answer and the other went to voice mail. I tried a third, Tube Depot and was pleasantly surprised to hear Michelle answer. She answered all my questions and asked a few of her own to learn exactly what I was after. She was familiar with the stock and made recommendations. They weren't the most expensive pieces either. I was given all the information I needed to make informed choices. I learned things and enjoyed the experience. I was told the tubes would arrive in a week. Well, guess what? They arrived in three days! I did a blind test with my wife. I started a song, paused it, shut down the amp, swapped out the driver tube, and pressed play to continue the same song. MY wife's eyes popped open! She loved it. The music was clearer and very enjoyable. The new output tubes sounded good as well; but not nearly the change with the driver replacement. Thank you Michelle, and thanks to Tube Depot for hiring you....
Read moreAlways a great experience purchasing from Tube Depot! I'd give more stars if I could.
Amazing customer service and they are always there to educate customers and explain their recommendations. Having played tube amps for years, but never having swapped tubes, Tube Depot was super helpful in educating, providing options, and letting me know if something didn't achieve the sound I wanted, they'd work with me to find it. Turns out, Joe was spot on about how to reign in my tube amp and swapping out the 6L6s for 6V6s did the trick.
They fielded several calls from me while I narrowed down my options and did a lil more research. Each time they were patient, professional, helpful, and eager to assist.
Then they expedited the shipping so I could have the tubes by the weekend to test things out quickly.
Above and beyond! The best customer service, great prices, super quick shipping, and top notch products.
In the elusive quest for tone, these guys are the pros I'll keep coming back to. I definitely recommend them for all things tube and...
