Ocean State Job Lot — Local services in Meredith

I went to the store to get several things I needed when I first walked in the double doors. It had a smell so I assumed a new carpet was put in in the foyer. It smelled a little bit like vinyl rubber as I went through the store I started to have a strong reaction to the odor that was coming out of the vent. I don’t know what it was, but the entire door smelled really bad. I started coughing my tongue got fuzzy. I got itchy I had a check out with a few items I had and get out of the store in a half hour. The cashier was fantastic. No issues there. The staff was friendly. The place looks clean a little overcrowded and disorganized. Not sure where to find things. I will never go back because I had to come back to my vacation spot and take Benadryl. Due to the reaction I had I am still dealing with symptoms of a sore throat, itchy, tongue, stuffy itchy, eyes, and lightheadedness. I would suggest that you have your AC unit. I feel bad for the workers. I do not know how they can deal with that smell. It is in the entire store. I wouldn’t want to purchase anything for fear It would smell like the building. If you have a sensitive system/allergy, avoid going. I do not consider myself to be sensitive, and several hours later, I am With symptoms. Would be cool if you updated your hours online to reflect the actual store hours. Waited 30 minutes for them to open at 9 am only to find a sign on the door stating seasonal hours begin at 10.

The employees at this store are horrible. Arrived just after opening time and the doors will still shut. I stood there for a moment until I heard a voice from behind me telling me the doors are closed except for employees only (which I get if it was before/after shop hours, but it wasnt). I checked the time and it was definitely after the time stated on the door to be open.

Finally the doors were opened and I went to grab the 1 thing I needed for work that day and went to the register, but no surprise, there was no employees at the register to ring me out. Nope, I found all the employees gathered around in a circle for a start of the day team meeting.

Maybe with better employees who showed up on time, they'd be able to open on time and have employees available to help...

Have taken advantage of a number of surprisingly high-quality items, like workshop lights, designer socks, food items over the last few years. Have been generally happy, although until a few months ago there was one man at checkout who could seem a bit arrogant to me. Went in last night about seven, looking for a couple items that has been moved around or no longer available. I will say the store was not busy. However all three employees went out of their way, even after I had presumed they no longer had what I was looking for, and eventually found what I was looking for, just as I was about to leave. All three went above and beyond what I would expect in ANY store, and obviously had the sort of old-fashioned concern in doing their jobs well that is not often seen these days.
