I have NEVER left a negative review for a company EVER. But I felt completely disrespected and left in tears because I was so uncomfortable. I have spent a lot of money with Scheels. I have bought ALL of my husbands clothes, colognes, Oakley sunglasses, camping gear, and a lot of my clothes in the 6 months they have been open. I also RAVED about them after they opened, and convinced all my friends and family to go and support/spend money there. Until I tried to make one exchange. I bought a pair of New Balance shoes at Scheels close to when they opened, I ALWAYS wear the same size in all of my shoes (a 6 in womans) so I asked the customer service lady who worked there for a 6 in woman's and bought them. I went home and noticed they were too big, and tried to wear them out probably twice because I thought they were SUPER cute, but they really just didn't fit and felt like clown shoes. I chalked it up to New Balance having failed horribly on their sizing for this style. I didn't keep track of the receipt, because I have never worn a different size shoe EVER, and wasn't planning to return them. At that point I was okay with the loss. But then a month or 2 later I was showing my best friend the shoes and complaining to her about how bad New Balance sizing is...she grabbed them while we were talking and that is when she figured out that the shoes were a 6 in MENS. Now, when you are at scheels, you don't pick your own box, you have to ask an employee to go to the back and they hand you the size you asked for. So the employee handed me the WRONG size and I didn't think twice about checking. At this point I felt like it was half my fault and half Scheels fault, so I figured I would go and see if they would exchange the shoes for the same pair, but in a 6 in woman's instead.I truly love the shoes, and wanted them to fit, so I didn't want or ever ask for my money back, I only wanted to exchange them. I took the shoes in and approached the situation VERY nicely, for one because I have worked in customer service and always try to be kind, but also because I knew they might not be able to help me because I was outside of their window for return at this point. So, I acknowledged that I was at fault in the situation and was just seeing if they might be able to help me. After getting to the counter and explaining a little, I was met with the RUDEST attitude I have ever been met with. It was an older gentleman that already looked angry before I started talking, and then made mean comments about how I "just like to wear shoes and then try to get away returning them". Which I told him from the beginning that I had worn them, and I never asked to return or get any of my money back, I only wanted them to exchange. So, if he thought I was lying, that doesn't make sense because there was truly NO benefit for me in the situation. He then asked me what card was used, so I gave the last 4 to him, and then he asked the exact day I bought them so he could look it up. I didn't remember the exact date, so I gave him a time range that I remembered, and that FRUSTRATED him greatly. He rolled his eyes and angrily went to the back table after questioning me more in a rude manor. He then made more rude comments LOUDLY from the computer he was at looking, to me at the counter I was standing. I am a sensitive person, and I was being super sweet with all of my responses, so at this point I was trying not to cry. I ended up asking another lady for the shoes back and told her I was uncomfortable and wanted to leave. She was kind and could tell I was teary eyed, so she quickly apologized for anything that happened, but at that point I just wanted to go. My anger is not in their return policy, or their exchange policy. My anger is that I should never leave a department store, that I spend way too much money at, emotional and embarrassed. The customer service was absolutely awful. I am very disappointed. I will not be returning and will no longer recommend them to anyone. I will spend my money at smaller companies that are...
Read moreI gave four stars because of Sarah in the women’s department. This probably would have been a two star review otherwise. I’ll start with why I had a bad experience. I am about 50 lbs overweight and I have a naturally large bust. Finding anything my size, from bras, to bathing suits, to tops was just about impossible. I learned that many of the companies that sell at Scheels are size exclusive. Some of them don’t even make XL anything. All the cute bras and bathing suits were only for women with a C cup or lower. I cannot tell you how many times I heard an employee in the dressing room telling people, “Oh, I’m so sorry, we don’t carry that size” or, “That company doesn’t make anything bigger than a large”. I’m not even being dramatic, she said it at least 3 times, not including the times she said it to me. Unless you want a bathing suit with 90s flowers all over it, you have to lose weight.
Other than that, the store is very clean, and the employees are incredibly friendly and genuinely helpful. We bought a dart board, a two person float, and a handful of other things. Sarah in the women’s department somehow made it possible for me to find a sports bra that fit me. I tried on many, and they were all way too small, and the sizing could not have been right. Anyway, she turned the whole day around. She was so kind and respectful. She made me feel like I mattered. She even called me by name. It's the little details that made me feel like a human and not just a consumer.
It also didn’t hurt that they sell my absolute favorite candy ever, which I cannot find anywhere.
Takeaway here is that their employees are absolutely fantastic. And their product selection is fantastic, unless you're a slightly overweight woman looking for clothes. I really wish they'd add more inclusive companies. The more types people you stock for, the more money you make. Common...
Read moreBasically a Cabelas in the form of a mall, with nothing on sale. Very cool place, tons of product, great selection of high end gear. If you don't care about price, you'll find whatever you need here.
For everyone complaining about it being expensive, it's not. They just sell at MSRP. Nothing has a Sheels price tag, just the standard manufacturers price. Everything is full price. I went through the entire store and found one thing on sale, a pair of binoculars $30 off.
It's nice seeing brands like Crispi, Arteryx, and Stone Glacier in store. I'm slightly disappointed Eberlestock didn't get any love, just a few bags tucked away in the corner. I assumed an Idaho based company would atleast have a branded display.
Do not expect to find an expert in any department, all the employees are very knew and only have basic knowledge. I interacted with a few people who seemed squared away, but most of the younger people knew very little about the products and a few were socially awkward. Seemed as if 80+% of the employees were not outdoorsmen, just people looking for job. Seems like a missed opportunity given all the local outdoor enthusiasts in Idaho.
Great looking store, but probably won't be back unless I hit the lottery. Everything in here can be found in other places, most likely cheaper and less crowded.
I arrived at open, and left two hours later. Even with a completely full parking lot, there were less than 5 people in checkout. Alot of people going to check it out and ride the ferris wheel, very little people actually...
