The worst moving experience ever, explained as follows.
I contracted with Perferred Movers of Merrimac, MA because they seemed nice and reviews were respectable. However, it all changed on the night before the move.
On Sunday night at approximately 9pm, the night BEFORE the move I received a text from someone who, when asked who they were did not disclose their identity proceeded to ask me if (and this is AFTER receiving a formal quote from the company) if I needed pictures to be moved tomorrow morning, the day of the move. Questioning the matter, I looked at the estimate and indeed, 15 boxes were on the quote to be moved - without any cost shown for the move of the boxes. The person sending me the text explained that there would be an extra cost to package the pictures. When I texted back and told them the pictures were on the original quote, I was told that was for movers "planning purposes" and that there would be an "up charge" to the original estimate. The amount to be determined when the movers arrived at the house.
Upon arrival, the supervisor changed the quote by adding $178 to the original quote. Then, they added a $75 fuel charge that was not disclosed. But, the best is yet to come....
Upon completion of the move to the storage facility, I was told by the team supervisor that the company "has a new policy to add 3% to the bill if I did not provide a good review." I told him that I was never told about this 3% up-charge but he again said, "It's a new company policy" and shrugged his shoulders as if to say, there is nothing I can do about it.
So, when I went to review the bill, it was factored into a new price increase of 3% on a separate, new bill. There was nothing I could do about it except to shake my head and say to myself, "the pen is mightier than the sword" so I wrote a good review and paid the original price not to include the 3% up charge and I would later provide a new review as soon as I could and here it is.
It must be said that the two packers who worked the job did a great job at moving our furnishings. However, the company changing numbers on the fly after moving everything on the truck that is just plain wrong. To me, it's just blackmail or extortion.
So, if you want to play a shell game of moving numbers and up-charges hire Preferred Movers of...
Read moreWe used Preferred Movers to move from Massachusetts to Illinois. We first talked to Jamie, who is extremely pleasant, professional and puts you at ease with such a stressful time in your life. The quote we got was more than reasonable for a long distance, complete home move. They were right on top of things to prepare us for the move! John was our driver and was in charge of actually putting our belongings on the truck and he himself drove it to Illinois. He is extraordinary, friendly, knowledgeable, very accommodating and quality driven! The skills, strategy and methods that John uses and guides his team with are phenomenal! He works extremely fast but in a very careful way to ensure that all of your belongings are wrapped up and protected from damage. He knows his stuff, and makes such a difficult job look so easy and smooth! He is the Tetris King when it comes to packing a truck efficiently and so that everything is very safe. We felt extremely cared for and comfortable with everyone from Preferred, which was nice because buying and selling a home and moving across country is already stressful enough. We have dealt with other movers in the past and it was always difficult and frustrating with broken items and people who just didn’t care. This was a totally different experience and we are so happy that we used Preferred! They are a company that knows how to hire amazing people and retain them for years like John. Most importantly, they treat your belongings like they were their own. Our move went very well with extremely fragile items and we had no problems at all with breakage or damage. The entire team is extremely respectful and polite and patient. I would hire them again in a heartbeat! Thank you to everyone at Preferred Movers for taking great care of us! You all are truly incredible and we appreciated all...
Read moreMy wife and I recently moved from Raymond, NH to North Fort Myers, Florida. When researching moving companies we read reviews time and time again about moving companies who did not show up when they were supposed too and most alarming about companies that showed up to deliver furniture but charged several hundred dollars more before they would unload the goods saying that the estimator under bid the move. Our first advice is to stay away from brokers who farm out your move. This almost always turns out bad. Use a company that owns its own trucks and does the whole project from beginning to end. Preferred Movers had good reviews on line and from people I knew who had used them. We chose them and put our trust in them which was a great decision. We worked with Jamie and she was awesome. On the day of the move they showed up 2 hours EARLY. The crew was quick, friendly and careful with our stuff. Although our stuff arrived a few days late in Florida it was because their truck BROKE down in Maryland and they had to wait a couple days for a part. When that happened the truck driver, Edward, called us almost everyday to let us know what was going on and to re-set our delivery date. Although unfortunate it was a relief to at least know where our stuff was and what was going on. When our stuff was delivered the difference between what the company thought we owed and what we thought we owed was 4 CENTS!! The stress of a long move is hard. Preferred Movers helped to make it a little less stressful. You should always do your homework but I found Preferred Movers to be helpful, trustworthy and honest. I would hire them again...
