The stars are for friendly intake staff and the wonderful location overlooking a beautiful beach. But the room itself left a lot to be desired. The sink top and most of the toilet were clean, but the tub and surround had clearly been missed, maybe for a long time, (that giant slimy handprint is not ours!) and there was mildew all around all the fixtures. The base of the toilet was filthy. The outside of the microwave was so gross looking I didn't want to use it -- the inside was clean, though. The big window overlooking the ocean was covered in handprints, spatters, and smears -- really gross. The blobs in my photo of the window are not bird poo, they are all smears and spots on the inside of the window which we cleaned off ourselves so we could enjoy that amazing view. The beds were made and clean but the sheets were cheap and pilled. The mattresses were not new and a bit saggy and lumpy. We used the hotel shampoo to clean the shower and window; when we told them about it downstairs (we had to ask for more shampoo) they did not apologize but did offer to send up housekeeping. We had no confidence in them so just did it ourselves. Our entire stay, these dirty areas were never cleaned. The "designer toiletries" consist of cheap motel soap and shampoo. That's it. No conditioner, no lotion. No tissues in the room, no paper towels. One of the beds had a blanket, the other just a sheet and the bedspread. We were told all rooms had just been remodeled, but the stove had rust all over it and the furnishings were old and dirty. The floors looked new, though, a very nice wood-look laminate, and the bedspreads too, a bright and cheerful print. The elevator was so slow that despite being on the fifth floor we choose to take the stairs for the entire trip. I am not picky and don't mind an old, dated motel if it's clean, but the state of this room was a disappointment. The positives: Amazing location, nice pool, water pressure is good for Florida, and every room has a balcony overlooking the sea. Also, we did not see a single bug in our room for the whole trip. If you set your expectations appropriately and bring your own cleaner and sanitizing wipes, you should be good. Edit: I included photos but don't see them here. Maybe it...
Read moreThe rooms were nicely sized, the beds were comfortable, the beach was merely steps away and the pool was gorgeous. Also I will say that the staff were very polite and well spoken. However upon checking in, we were informed we might not have a room due to the fact that we were all under 21. This would be understandable, but I was never asked my age during the booking process so this was fairly confusing. They ended up letting us stay after the manager came in and told us that we had to be on best behavior. The next day when we tried to use our oven the fire alarm went off 30 seconds later and continued to beep every 2 minutes. They took it off the wall and said that a new one would come in later. During the time in between, the toilet flooded the floor, which was our fault because someone dropped something accidentally while it was flushing, but the real issue was that the housekeeping instructed me to pick up the towels that were covered in toilet water. After this they did come to replace the fire alarm but since I was in the shower they went home for the day, I wish they would have done it earlier on in the day (or just left the fire alarm for me to attach since its not that difficult) instead of coming at the end of their day and us having to wait another 24 hours. I will say that the beach itself is amazing and that the rooms were really cute with the little kitchenette. I've had family stay here many a time before and they loved it so it could have easily been that this was just a big coincidence that this happened to my party, but I have to review on my own personal stay and not what could have been or what others...
Read moreWe were happy to find an RV park near the beach. This one is just across a 2-lane street to a beautiful, but very short beach which we enjoyed, but may be very crowded once the hotel is back up and running.
The good: Friendly staff, clean restrooms and a nice large air-conditioned laundry room. A large fire-pit to gather around, furnished with fire-wood. A large covered pavilion with grills and picnic tables. Full hook-ups at each site.
The bad: The parking spaces and roads inside the park consist of very large rocks and sand. The rock is loose and difficult to walk on, even within the sites. We don’t generally mind gravel lots, but this is not compacted gravel. Shoes are required at all times, even the dogs struggled to walk on it. We would love to see the sites be groomed and compacted with something more comfortable under foot. Make sure to bring blocks for under leveling pads for stabilization. Each site has a picnic table, but no concrete pad. No landscaping to speak of, but the park is recovering from a hurricane, so maybe that will come later. Dog-friendly, but I would not say child-friendly. No pools, play-grounds, or game rooms.
Location and Services: Mango Marley’s, sports bar atmosphere, is open and walkable. There is also an Ace Hardware and Dollar General a few blocks away, and a small local grocery and liquor store. If you tow your RV or bring a toad, Port St Joe is nearby for more restaurants and groceries.
Overall, we enjoyed the location, but hope they will improve the parking and out-door...
