2 of 2--New bad experience 2023 ::: Was turned away abruptly after my pregnancy was confirmed in ER 2023 at 15 weeks. The ER didn't save me the time in telling me that my appointment at Mount Sinai a month later wouldn't even happen because they can only see people no later before 15 weeks or up to 15 weeks.... So it didn't matter that my pregnancy has been confirmed there. My primary doctor was hard to reach so I had to reschedule my OB appointment. By the time I got my referral they called me days before to tell me I was being turned away over the MyChart messaging system but I hadn't replied so they called me to tell me they finally checked my chart (for the first time?) And they couldn't take me as a patient (imagine if I got rejected when I went to the appointment again) WHICH I only found out because I asked about a concern over MyChart since they were my gynecologist previously. They left me Scrambling to find a hospital that would accept with my weeks pregnant and my insurance...
They also left me itching and burning without a solution for Months. I don't know how they test urine incorrectly in the gynecologist and also going to the ER multiple times When I have multiple things but only one comes out in the urine and they try to tell me burning itching and pain is normal down there in pregnancy..... A different hospital took the infection seriously after I said I was suffering for months and they prescribed me medication super fast without hesitation because they said there was no reason to suffer like that.
1 of 2--BAD POSTPARTUM EXPERIENCE 2020 ::::: So I had my child in this hospital late 2020. Never in my life did I imagine the nurses would bully a mom who has just given birth and complain about helping me after giving birth. My partner was sleep deprived and they refused to provide food for him but thankfully we had other resources for that. They also didn't care that our newborn was having gas and suffering in pain no matter what we said till the day we were being discharged when a random nurse with some attitude pointed out they were providing us the wrong formula and they even made me miss my daughter's first bath...Oh and they refused to come several times during daytime especially in the middle of the night and would make excuses..the people there would tell lie straight to our face and think we wouldn't catch them ignoring what we said we needed. They were rough and insensitive with teaching me how to hold my baby and basically laughed at me and made me feel worse and more depressed and anxious than I already did. They also don't realize the pills they gave me had me half asleep and shaky... The head nurse didn't know what to tell us and was honestly embarrassed and we had to request stuff to take home and be pushy with it or else we got nothing like imagine after all of that not even getting free formula because the baby will be hungry soon after we leave and they already barely did their job when we were in their care.... I feel sorry for anyone else who goes through the same and I hope MARTA from the postpartum ward gets fired for treating me the most horrible and shaming me for being a patient in need and accusing me of being a lazy/uninvolved new mother with the other people there including to a Social Worker that I set the record straight with from my freaking hospital bed.... Oh and MARTA complained about her job in front of me every freaking time and before leaving I was concerned about this sudden sharp pain in my head when I was sitting in the wheelchair holding the baby and she didn't even make eye contact when I told her and she asked me if I wanted her to tell my nurse but the useless lady did not do that and complained that I had two bags I needed help taking down to the car because they were "heavy" and she's a victim. Of her job. And then they harassed me about my mask not knowing info about my health which is Why I was Allowed birth without a mask. Such horrible Healthcare workers.... harassed me going in after giving birth, during my stay and leaving...
Read moreThis is the absolute worst hospital I have EVER been to in my entire life. Nurses know absolutely NOTHING, only had 2 good nurses my entire week stay. They are absolutely lost, possibly new grads with no preceptors. One of the nurses came in to admin IV fluids - lactated ringers WITH dextrose for a non diabetic patient while my fluids were running at 300mL/ hour. My glucose would have been THROUGH the roof and this could’ve spiraled into a VERY serious problem. They take NOTHING you say seriously. Thankfully, I work in the field and study medicine; I have a lot of knowledge and had to correct most of my nurses on multiple occasions. They have NO resources during night shift whatsoever. The charge nurse Katya is absolutely horrible, she has 0 ethics, 0 professionalism, and 0 compassion. They administered a midline to simply push fluids because NONE of these idiotic nurses were able to catch a vein and prevent infiltration nor were they open to calling ICU nurse to admin IV. On my second night with the midline, I began to complain about numbness and tingling in the arm where the line was, but per usual, I was ignored. I was told my nightshift nurse would take a look. Raquel, my nightshift nurse has 0 idea what she’s doing, don’t know how these nurses passed their NCLEX. She completely ignored me until I yelled for help and demanded to be taken down to ultrasound because I was hypertensive, NO range of motion, my arm was rigid, obvious signs of edema, and had significant capillary refill delay. I was begging and yelling for medical attention for 6 HOURS, while the charge nurse was too busy yelling and threatening my father - who wanted me to leave the hospital as she refused to let us leave and remove my line. They called rapid response and the only person that showed was an EKG tech who didn’t even have an order placed for an EKG, so she did nothing but stand there in awe as I screamed for help watching my hand turn color. How the hell can this hospital respond to a code?! I yelled for ultrasound and rapid response and Katya said there were no doctors nor ultrasound. She instructed I sit down and take a tylenol - WHAT?! They did not put electrodes on me to monitor my cardiac activity while I had a suspected CLOT, no nurse to care for me, nor a doctor. I was left to fend for myself. After 6 hours of arguing and screaming for my life, they took me down to ultrasound where the reported I had 3 clots DVT. Ken, an angel of a person, was the ONLY nurse who assisted me. He removed my line and assured me I will be okay. Raquel NEVER came back inside my room to check on me nor take my vitals, etc. He urged the NP on call to come over to the hospital so that I can get my heparin drip. He was also able to simple out in a new line with a larger catheter. Their lab is a DISASTER, but let’s speak about the more catastrophic events - as it was a total nightmare.
Fast forward, I am now getting discharged with ORAL blood thinners without the doctor reviewing my most recent labs. I had labs done at 3:00 AM and 11:17 AM. My doctor only saw my 3:00 AM labs before discharging me, while my labs at 11:17 AM showed my PTT was at 123.6. A patients PTT cannot be over 100 due to increased risk for aneurysms, hemorrhaging, etc. I was absolutely hemophiliac. Long story short, I had to pause the blood thinners or else my PTT would have been at dangerously high levels. This is also the labs fault because they are so understaffed, the labs aren’t done on time nor do they collect them in a timely manner. This hospital is absolutely terrifying and nightshift is a complete nightmare. I know this hospital has had many casualties and death due to their negligence. 0/10 and I would warn everyone, unless you want to die, so not visit this hospital. You will be left alone to fend for yourself or at the mercy of God. Had it not been for Ken, Chief Supervisor of Nursing, and myself - knowing all that I do - I wholeheartedly believe I would have lost my arm, been permanently disabled, or even dead. Please, stay away from...
Read moreMy husband was recently hospitalized through the emergency room at Mount Sinai hospital in Miami after I found him unconscious with a bleeding head wound in our condo. While lying in the emergency room for 8 hours, the staff wasn’t rude, but they gave an impression of indifference as they left my husband lying in a blood drenched shirt for hours as doctors and nurses were chatting and socializing for long periods of time. I scraped the blood off of his torso and changed him myself when it became apparent that no one was going to do it for him. He was too weak to even stand upright. My husband’s head wound was stapled together without even having a bandage placed over it, and it continued to bleed all over the sheets without any nurse offering to apply a dressing on it. He was diagnosed with a heart block, but throughout the 4 day hospitalization, the internal medicine department didn’t order a cardiologist consult despite my husband’s unwitnessed reports of fainting. They did a neurology evaluation, a cursory cardiac test, and a psychiatrist evaluation because they insinuated that the fainting was due to anxiety. He was treated by the medical doctors as though he was a hypochondriac and a nuisance, and had to argue with doctors, telling them firmly that he didn’t suffer from any type of anxiety disorder. Also, there seems to be a staff shortage and when my husband called for a nurse, it took about 30 minutes on average. After 4 days of hospitalization and only the inconclusive diagnosis of syncope to address the losses of consciousness, my husband returned home quite sick, and for the next month, continued to pass out 40-50 times before finding a cardiologist to accurately diagnose a serious condition requiring a life saving pacemaker insertion and cardiac catheterization. Our observation is that specialist MDs at Mount Sinai outpatient medical center are very good to excellent. But the hospital itself is a very bad place to be if you have an emergency and don’t already have a diagnosis. The internal medicine department there misdiagnosed my husband, and were negligent in their procedures to find a definitive diagnosis. The care he received was abysmal and practically third world. If he ever has another emergency, we will never go there again. After this debacle of a hospitalization, we received a letter from our medical insurance company denying payment due to “lack of medical necessity” because my husband was released with basically no reimbursable diagnosis. He should have been discharged from that medical center with a pacemaker! How the hell did they not diagnose carotid sinus sensitivity which is a common cause of syncope after age 50? Instead, he had to wait over a month, and could have died from heart failure. At one point his pulse went down to 30-40 bpm while at home, and I was terrified because he was having convulsions and losing consciousness in the days and weeks following the hospitalization. It was a horrific ordeal. I am very disappointed in this hospital. It’s the closest hospital to my home, but next time we’ll travel the 45 minutes to go to Baptist or University of Miami Hospital instead. In addition, worth mentioning that Mount Sinai is a large medical center, and the quality of nursing care is very uneven. It’s a hit or miss type of situation. Also, the building for inpatient internal medicine is very dingy and the rooms look like a tired old Midwest motel, but the Skolnik Surgical Pavilion is a new state of the art building. If you have an elective planned surgery, it’s an okay place to be if you’re assertive in advocating for yourself, but again I’m reiterating that internal medicine leaves a lot to be desired. I would never have my elderly mother admitted there because I’d feel that she’s unsafe.
This is an addendum to my original review. Mount Sinai responded with an obligatory statement of “Sorry about your experience, etc. Please contact Patient Relations.” I tried and have never received any response whatsoever to...
