I recently had a loved one stay at McLean for over two weeks and could not be more grateful for the help provided. Jess, our case manager, went above and beyond to guide us through the process and next steps in finding duel treatment programs and communicated daily to update me. Also, when my loved one felt like they weren’t being heard and diagnosed accordingly, Dr. Q and the staff listened to my concerns and took the time to take a more thorough look at the situation and were patience with us. Navigating the healthcare system can be a nightmare, and McLean Southeast allowed me to advocate for my loved one and I felt like they understood that it takes a village - of staff, patient, and family advocates, to get the best results. If you feel like something isn’t working, take the time to (kindly and gracefully) speak up and explain your perspective so that it can guide the staff, who are working hard to do their best for multiple patients, can have the chance to take a closer look. I feel as though this facility genuinely cares, and my loved one constantly commented on how nice the staff and the patients were. I found it very easy to contact him, and really appreciated their structure and ease of communication....
Read moreHorrible experience. Both times I've been I was bullied. I reported it to the staff and they did nothing. One staff member was extremely sexist and treated the female patients horribly. I got my level dropped because I had panic attacks when no one would listen to my complaints of other patients. They didn't care if I stayed in my room without food, which occurred all but on of the days. My last stay lasted only 5 days, but it was supposed to be longer since my mother and my social worker decided I needed to "work through this." Well, the thing is, I don't have to live with my bullies in the real world. Still, my mother and social worker did not listen to me and I worried I would be stuck in this Hell hole for another month. On the last day I had a severe anxiety attack and blacked out. They sent me back to the ER because I was "unstable". I would have been fine if someone had actually helped me and diffused the situation.
There was also another patient, a MTF transgender peer named Anna. She was denied her right to be put with her fellow women and left treatment early as a result.

Read moreFirst off, was going to the IOP program for SEVERE depression and anxiety. Went to my first day, first thing they do is interrogated you by 3 different people all at once. One question was “Do you suffer from PTSD? Because we don’t do that here.” And other details I won’t indulge in. The thing that really upset me was the fact they LET ME go to the first group, I really liked it, then got pulled aside after and told I wasn’t allowed to be in the program. I was DEVASTATED and I’ll let you imagine what I was thinking about, having said depression. They told me I could stay for the day...but why would I want to?
Was hesitant to go somewhere else but Gosnold in Stoughton has been EVEN BETTER. AND they serve you food, which one of mcleans things for “getting better” is three meals a day. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.
And apparently they are known for it, at Gosnold I had multiple people come up to me saying they did THE SAME THING.
Word of advice: You are a psychiatric hospital, YOU SHOULD TREAT PEOPLE WITH PSYCHIATRIC ILLNESSES not throw them to the curb in their...
