I am contacting animal control and sheriffâs department regarding this meticulously detailed scam operation. On Oct 26, me, my boyfriend and 2 kids came into this store. We spent about 2 hours in the booth while Bryan was talking us into getting the first puppy we played with out of 5. Like others mention, they never give you the price until you and your kids fall in love with a puppy and saying ânoâ is the hardest thing to do. So once he reached this point with us and talked to us about this âunreal connectionâ the dog and all of us have, the $6780 price tag was announced. Obviously, that was not expected and having the kids almost cry for us having to say ânoâ to the puppy was the hardest thing to do. We asked for a discount, we asked to leave a deposit and go have lunch and think about it. Bryan did everything he could to not let us leave the store to the point he started looking ridiculous. After all my boyfriend and the kids stepped out and I stayed with the dog. My boyfriend asked me to come out, I handed the dog back to Bryan and he whispered to me âdonât let them leave, I will hold the dogâ. Really??!! I went into the car and as we were talking Bryan kept playing with the puppy by the window and playing with our emotions. As he saw us pulling out, he ran out of the store with the puppy, stopped us and said âyou were just going to leave like that?â Excuse me? We have no obligation to stay or not to leave in any way we want. Then the show started, visibly getting mad, he was going above and beyond to get us back in the store, asking us to leave a deposit, start the paperwork and get the dog. At the end he lowered the price to $4500. That made me even more mad- you were just going to rip us off by having us overpay over $2k??? We left. He called 6:37pm after the store closing and offered the dog for $2400. Over $4k discount. Are you kidding me. He said come in the morning. I called back with the question- nobody answered. The store was closed. We and the kids got excited to get the dog in the morning. My boyfriend cancelled work and on his way there somebody called and told him, the puppy was sold the night before since the store closed at 9pm and Bryan had already left so he could not inform us. How much more ridiculous can it get? I called the store and Jennifer the manager said âI dont see anything unprofessional about how your situation was handledâ. I have never experienced anything more unprofessional than that. Wait for undercover visitors Select A Puppy đ On top of everything they lure you in by insuring you against any congenital disease. To my knowledge, congenital disease is identified at birth. Itâs not gonna appear out of nowhere after the puppy is born. So basically, they insure you against nothing. They play with your feeling, kids and animals to make profit. The most unethical service ever that will be going out of business very soon. All the support of other customers will be appreciated. The more evidence we have, the sooner this place will be closed and the puppies will be free. I am not taking...
Read morePlease take a minute to read this and be informed. We purchased our puppy from Select A Puppy in Middletown in February 2025. While we love our dog deeply, our experience with the store left much to be desired and raised several red flags.
From the beginning, getting a clear price for the puppy was frustrating. Despite repeatedly asking, the staff avoided giving a straight answer until we were emotionally invested and ready to commit. When they finally shared the price, it was significantly higher than expected â especially for a mini Goldendoodle, which typically averages around $3,000. Only after expressing that we might walk away did the manager offer to reduce the price by $2,000. Even with the discount, we still felt we overpaid, but we had already fallen for the puppy.
At the time of purchase, we were required to sign a contract that claimed medical expenses for any health issues would be reimbursed â up to the price paid â if necessary. This made us feel somewhat reassured.
What initially attracted us to this store was the sheer number of positive reviews. However, during checkout, we were handed a tablet and told to leave a Google review in exchange for a free chew toy. The pressure to leave a review on the spot, while staff watched and waited, felt uncomfortable and inappropriate. I declined, saying I wanted to wait until we got home and had a better sense of things â though the interaction left a bad impression.
Included in our purchase paperwork was a list of local vet recommendations, which we appreciated since we were in search of a new vet. We chose one in Howell with good reviews and brought our puppy in for his first visit â where we were asked to provide a stool sample. Unfortunately, he tested positive for two parasites. Over the next two months, we incurred nearly $1,500 in vet bills for multiple treatments, IV fluids, shots, anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medication, and retesting.
We submitted our receipts to Select A Puppyâs third-party reimbursement service, only to be told that per the contract, we would only be reimbursed if the vet provided a written statement declaring the puppy "unfit for sale." When we asked the vet for this letter, we were told (twice) they couldnât provide it. It's clear that since this vet is on Select A Puppyâs referral list, theyâre unlikely to jeopardize their relationship with the store by writing that kind of letter. A staff member at the vet even acknowledged this was a common issue.
While we are so grateful that our puppy is now healthy and part of our family, this experience highlighted several troubling practices â from unclear pricing and pressured reviews, to questionable referral relationships and reimbursement loopholes. We ultimately changed vets and want to caution others: buying from this store could mean spending thousands upfront, only to face additional unexpected costs and frustrating red tape if your puppy has...
Read moreDO NOT BUY A PUPPY HERE! Iâve had a horrible experience with this place since the beginning with the price but now 6 months later it just got worse and worse. So for starters when we got to Select a Puppy they had the dog we were looking for and we asked the price and they said they donât know yet but they will let us know. Our puppy just got there that day so to be able to buy him we had to wait for the vet to exam him first so we waited almost 4 hours for our dog to be ready and in these 4 hours we asked for the price multiple times and they just kept saying the same thing (which is such a scam to begin with) we wish we realized it sooner but we were waiting so long and at this point we were in love with this puppy, they gave us the price when they handed us the paperwork to fill out which was outrageous but we wind up paying the price unfortunately. We do love our puppy but just for future buyers you can get a puppy for 10x cheaper literally anywhere else! So now we are 6 months into to having our puppy and my vet says she hears a heart murmur and gives me an âunfit for purchaseâ letter to give to Select a Puppy, and she says he will need to go to a Cardiologist to know how serious the murmur is. So i set up a claim with Select a Puppy and that was a hassle at first, the first girl i talked to acted like she had no clue how to set up a claim. The next day i called back and got a more competent girl and she set up a claim no problem. After confirming he had the murmur and that is was a low grade luckily, i sent in the notes and invoice, talked to Jennifer and all seemed like it was going in the right direction since they have a âLIFETIME HEART MURMUR GUARANTEEâ A week and a half after that i emailed to get an update and was told that the next step is a final review and check in the mail. So i waited and in a month span i emailed two more time to get an update and after the second email exactly a month after submitting the claim Jennifer called me just to tell me they actually never sent the letter or check yet and they need one more letter from the doctor. Meanwhile the only reason she called was because i was persistently asking for updates. So i got the letter and she said it wasnât good enough so they were denying to pay the claim. SO AFTER ALMOST TWO MONTHS, I wasted my time with this stupid back and forth just for them to deny it. Which in my opinion is them not abiding to their warranty that is on their website and on my paperwork, also in New Jersey there is a Lemon Law. Just because my puppies heart murmur is not a high grade one they are refusing to pay the one invoice, yet he still has a murmur??. This place is actually a complete scam and they are selling puppies with issues and not doing whatâs in their policy. DO NOT GET YOUR PUPPY...
