I have been a member of Salus since they first opened doors, April 13, 2013, and since then, it became my second home, my go to for workouts, for weightlifting, for nutrition, for friendship, for meditation and even just to hang out when the time allows. I had tried a different box before and it didn’t make it for me, and when I walked in and I met Gino & Angela (coaches and owners) and the beautiful space they had created, I knew right away I had to join (and then my 3 year old at that time, my husband and step daughter). Almost 10 years later, there is no one day that I give it for granted. Amazing, caring and knowledgeable coaches (funny too) have helped me become the best version of myself in every aspect. I had never imagine to be able to lift the weights I do today, the strength (mentally and physically) I discovered and developed within me, the understanding of healthy lifestyle, the importance of being and example to our own families, the capability to challenge and push myself beyond beliefs or fears, the beautiful and solid friendships I have made over the years, the importance of finding balance in life…. Read moreI initially contacted Angela because I wanted advice about how to lose about five pounds to make weight for an upcoming Olympic Weightlifting meet. After working with Angela for three months, I'm now internally embarrassed at how cavalier and ignorant I was about my own knowledge of nutrition for athletes. I had thought my eating habits were mostly on point and I just needed to shed some water weight. to make weight Little did I know, my macros were all off and I was working off of so many false assumptions about what "healthy" foods are. In the course of three months, Angela completely transformed my nutrition habits--from the shocking revelation that carbs are an athlete's friend to the gentle and frequent suggestion that whole foods are always better than processed. At our last check-in, I was shocked when she told me that I had dropped down to 17.5% body fat. Just yesterday, I was able to make weight at my first Oly meet with room to spare. From the first consultation call before a drop in class to the on boarding when you join the owners let you know exactly what to expect so when you're in class you feel comfortable and empowered. The coaches are fantastic, knowledgeable and supportive. Each brings a different approach to coaching that appeals to different styles of learning/working out which makes it super easy to improve, learn proper form/technique and progress. They all know exactly how to challenge you in the way you need it, know when to push, and when to scale back to work on foundations/basics, or break down a complicated move to simple key parts to focus on then build upon.
No matter what level you’re at you always leave feeling confident, accomplished and motivated to return. The community is supportive, friendly and encouraging.
